Extortionate npower bill!!

Options
Hi, I moved house in Dec 2012 and I had to stay with npower until I could switch back to my previous supplier. Between 21/12/12 - 27/01/13 my gas bill alone totaled £950.00!!!!!!! We have had National Grid check that we don't have any leaks (only a small one under the hob was found but this would not contribute to this massive bill!).

Can anyone help me with what I should do, as there is no way I have used this much gas in just over a month! I have heard that npower are difficult to deal with so I want as much information to hand as possible before I tackle them.

Thanks in advance.

How big is the house? how many radiators? how long do you have the CH on for?
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

Estimated readings and/or a catch-up from previous bills?
What were the meter readings on the dates you've been billed for and were they estimates, customer's or actual readings?

  • sounds like an estimated reading to me? have u worked out the difference of how much you have used by taking your reading now from your inital meter reading from when u moved in?
  • It's a 4 bed detatched, 12 radiators and the CH is only on for the minimum to keep the house warm.
They are both readings I have taken so we are worried there may be a faulty meter.

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Hi Everyone,

    Panic over! (Feeling very blonde!)

When I originally contacted Npower in Dec I gave them an incorrect reading, I asked the lady what digits to give and she told me to give the little red number on the end not to put a 0 at the beginning if there was one! What has annoyed me more is that when I gave the beginning figure they should have checked it against the previous owners figure and said if there was that much of a discrepancy!

Thank you all for looking at my thread and trying so hard to help me with my problem. I know that if in the future I have an issue I can come to you guys and I know someone will try to help me. :T

I feel like I've totally wasted your time so sorry :o

    Many thanks again NettieSmith
