You have no right to a refund. Argos can repair it if they wish

What can you do if goods aren't fit for purpose?

If goods aren't fit for their normal purpose they aren't of satisfactory quality and you may have the right to return them to the seller and ask for a refund.
If something isn't fit to be used for a specific purpose agreed with the seller you may have the right to return it to the seller and claim a refund.
If you return the goods within a very short time of buying them you don't normally have to accept a repair or replacement instead of a refund, unless you want to.
If you've kept the goods for a while the law says you may have accepted the goods and have lost your right to a full refund. However, you should still have the right to get a repair or replacement.

Do take items back as quickly as possible

If something's faulty - in other words, it breaks the SAD FART rules - returning it speedily is crucial.skiing-santa.jpg
    • Within four weeks: You can usually still get a full refund, as you're unlikely to be seen as having 'accepted' the goods. After that, only expect an exchange, repair or part-refund.
    • Within six months: The shop must prove the item wasn't faulty when the transaction took place. After this period, you must prove it was.

    T & C with Argos

If there's a fault with the product...

    We've made it easier!
    • If you bring it back to us within 30 days with your proof of purchase, we'll give you a
      replacement or a refund.
    • If you've had the product for up to 1 year, we'll repair the product or, if that's not possible, give you a replacement or, if that's not possible, a refund.

Could always see if you can return the new one? Where ever you bought it may have a change of mind policy and if you bought it online, you have 7 working days (starting day after delivery) to inform them of your intent to cancel (dont have to send the goods back in this time, just inform them you want to cancel in a durable form such as letter or email).
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
