washing powder branded v shops own brand?

I've always bought branded washing powder but only what is on offer.
Just wondering which powder you all use and if shop brand how it compares in quality and price compared to branded powder!
Thanks x

I use tesco tablets. I use 1 tablet with some soda crystals.

I use the tablets as I like to know exactly how many washes I have left.

They are 2 boxes for £6. Soda crystals are about £1 a bag. I use about 1 bag a box. You get 48 tablets a box. So I get 96 washes for £8.

I always use branded softener. Whichever is on special.

The soda crystals not only clean they soften the water.

My opinion....the colours in the fabric lose their brightness quicker with the cheaper powder. Whites aren't as white as they are with a more expensive powder. I do use the cheap stuff on the sheets so you could try that and what difference it makes to your sheets...you don't wear them so even if they lose brightness they can still be used.

  • I use branded (surf) but only because I buy it from costco and £11.00. I use half the amount recommended and it lasts me six months

  • My own feeling is that the only real difference between any of the laundry detergents is the perfume. I've not noticed any colour-fading by using own-brands or unbranded.

Currently I'm using "laundry gloop' which I made myself and is costing me something like a couple of pence per wash-load, if that.
  • I've started using the daisy brand from tesco and find it as good as daz or fairy I used before

I use the Lidl Formil liquid stuff, both colour & bio. Works just as well as the Ariel gel.

I use the one which Aldi sell called Almat. I find this works well.

I don't use fabric softener at all.

I buy mine off eBay. Even with the postage it is still much cheaper and i have never had any problems with the quality.

I have recently started using ASDA smart price powder over surf combined with lenor fabric softener (though I've bought a bottle of ASDA own fabric softener when the lenor runs out). I have an 18 month old who can get quite mucky. Food stains (prefers his hands over cutlery so a meal like spag Bol is always fun!), mud stains if he falls over etc. I honestly cannot notice a difference. I always rub stains with a little bicarb before it goes in the wash (40 degree wash) and everything is coming out as clean as it did before. :)

  • Maybe it's me but I find own brands rubbish, so now I just use Daz liquid or bold 2 in 1 powder/liquid or tabs, whichever is on offer.
