I used to have a very old food processor, it was a basic thing and I only ever used it for grating carrots.

It's now burnt out and I have to grate carrots by hand which is driving me nuts.

I make loads of soup at one go and freeze it so I need loads of carrots grated.

Given that I don't really cook or bake enough to justify the expense of buying a new food processor, is there a cheaper option just for grating that anyone else has used and could recommend?

Thanks in advance if anyone can help. :)

Edit: I should add that I'd prefer to feed in whole carrots rather than have to chop them into chunks first.

Have you checked out your local Freecycle or similar? I got an old, but in perfect working condition, food processor which has lasted me years from my local one.

Yes I do check and I get the emails sent but nothing too exciting ever comes up tbh.

  • Do they need to be grated? Can't you just finely chop.? I never grate carrots apart from making coleslaw.

  • I have a very old Moulinex thingy which my mother gave me long, long time ago. It has different circular blades for grating/slicing/etcetera. The REALLY frustrating thing about it is that I have absolutely no idea how to assemble the damned thing. So near and yet so very, very far away. I haven't been able to find an instruction manual for it online either. I might just ditch it and be done with it but I still keep hoping as I could find loads of uses for it. So very frustrating
  • Does it need to actually be grated? I use my hand blender for this type of thing - after cooking I whiz up soups with it, or before cooking it has a mini chopper attachment that finely chops it. They are relatively cheap new compared to food processors, if it will do the job you need.

    Thank you.

I did come across that machine and wondered if anyone else had used one. It seems to have good reviews in your link.

I have some Tesco vouchers I can use and also some Amazon credit so hopefully wouldn't have to shell out too much cash if any.

Would a manual rotary grater handle carrots? I use one all the time for cheese as i find traditional graters really tiring.
