Cat box question

We've got 2 cats, both about a year old, we've got a cat flap and they're in and out all the time, at night too. We've had a cat box for them since they were tiny, but I'm wondering if I can get rid of it. They use it occasionaly, probably once or twice a week, I'm not sure when though, they go out in the rain and even the snow, but there is the odd wee in there sometimes, no poo's. If I get rid of the box though, will they go out everytime, or look for somewhere the odd time they would have used the box?
I use Cats best Oko plus, which is brilliant, I just scoop out the wee's in a lump and flatten it out again, topping it up when it needs it.
I'm just at the point though of needing some more so wondering if I can just get rid of the box instead?
What do you think?

  • they are using the litter tray so i would keep it, the last thing you want is for them to find another place to go & then you will have a hell of a job getting them to stop using that spot
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • Keep it.... Personally, I'd always have a tray in the house - even if the cats went outside ALL the time.

If they get a urinary infection / some other problem "down below" - they will often use the litter box differently from normal (which can alert you to a problem) or you may find blood etc when you go to clean it out - you'd never know any of this if you didn't have the box - and things could have got a lot worse before you finding out there was a problem.

If they don't use it that much then it shouldn't cost that much to keep it.

  • Good point thanks. Its a space thing as much as a money thing, but its a problem I can live with, so I'll just get a small bag for topping up.
    Cheers
