Are these the cheapest LED GU10s

Are these the cheapest LED GU10s

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20220039/

I bought 3, for my hall lights upstairs, I will get another 3 for the downstairs - they seem ok.

Not sure if they are longer than regular, they might not fit in recessed - partner put them up before I could check.

150 lm is pretty rock bottom for light output so cheap but your only getting what your paying for, low light output.
  • 150 lumens ????
Typical Ikea cr*p & will get LED bulbs a bad name.
The GU10 Next Gen LED bulbs I am buying at the moment are 420 lumens !!!
You get what you pay for............

I know nothing about lighting, I have 20 GU10s in my house & was looking to venture into low energy light bulbs in that size.

I guess 420 lumens means you get more light? Does that also mean it takes more electric to run? I guess they cost mkore?
  • Yes basically more lumens means more light output.
Those Ikea bulbs are 3.4 watts the bulbs I buy are 420 lumens but 5 watts.
Watts is the amount of electricty consumed.
My bulbs cost me £11.99 each BUT the have 12 month guarantee & a massive 30 000 hours expected life.
    Have a look here......

To do my house would cost £240!!! & thats just 3 rooms.

Are they worth that? I would expect more than a year, my kitchen would cost £96.

    Are they worth that?

The Ikea ones are ok for the hall, thats where I put the first 3 & I would get another 3 for the other light fitting in the hall.
  • Work it out like this.....roughly !!
    You now have.......
    20 x 50 watt halogen bulbs = 1000 watts on 5 hours per day ( or whatever ) = 5000 watts x 365 days 1825000 watts divide by 1000 = kilwatt hours x .11p per kilowatt hour ( or whatever you pay) = £200.75 plus 20% VAT £240.90 spent on lights alone in a year.

Do the calculation using 20 x 5 watt LED bulbs & it works out at £24.09 per year saving a massive £216.81 per year.

You might not have your light on for 5 hours & every day for 365 days but you see the calculation ??

    Thank you:D

I doubt I have them on for anything like that, but yes, ev en half that, its clear in two years you have saved - because chances are, they will last that or longer.

I need to change my bathroom downlights. They are the ones that get very hot, does this mean they are mains voltage or
12V? I think it means they are mains voltage doesn't it?

I will get a sparky in to change them, but Screwfix have some good offers on at the moment, so I would like to buy the 6 units now.

The old ones are special bathroom ones & they are murder to change, I want to get the sames ones as I have in the kitchen, the simple clips.

Basically you are correct but bear in mind vat on electricity is currently (pardon the pun) set at 5% not 20%. There is also the initial cost of purchasing the lamps to take into consideration. Overall though the change to LED lamps is worthwhile long term. Be careful on colour though as cool white is very harsh domestically. Best to stick to a warm white in my opinion.
