Payment wont let me pay - Please help!

Hi all
I have been using ebay for buying and selling stuff since 2002.
I won a bid for an iphone 5 few days on ebay for £450.
The seller wanted the payment made via paypal but when i went to pay via paypal i keep getting an error message stating that the payment cannot be completed.
The funding source i have chosen is my credit card.
I called up paypal and they simply say that the reason for the error is an alert on their system to stop the payment as its a high value transaction (and is not my normal pattern) and say they cannot do anything about it.
Meanwhile the seller is chasing me up for the payment.
I was wondering if anyone has been through this situation and how they resolved with paypal.
I want to complete the payment with my credit card (rather than pay by cheque or cash) due to the extra protection (like sec 75) that i get with credit card.
Any help greatly appreciated.

But if you pay by credit card via PayPal, Section 75 protection won't apply.

Given the number of threads here on MSE about scams involving the likes of eBay and iphones, perhaps Paypal are doing you a favour?0 -
Phone again and keep phoning and see what you need to lift your sending limits.
antrobus, many people have successfully done section 75 claims via a credit card, on the Norfolk hamper thread alone it shows some banks will and some won't.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
