What car?
Options
Hope you guys are able to offer some suggestions.
I am looking for a car, budget it 7k, oldest I would consider is 08, not fussed on petrol or Diesel, low road tax preferred.
It needs to have a big boot for a large dog to go in.
So far have looked at Ford Fusions, Vauxhall Meriva and Kia Ceed.
Anyone have any advice either on the above or any new suggestions?

None of them have a large boot.
Look at a Skoda Octavia Estate or Mondeo Estate.0 -
The Ford fusion does... well big enough for what I need as does Kia Ceed. Have not looked at the inside of the Meriva.
Will go have a look atyour suggestions.0 -
What sort of dog? And do you crate said dog or just leave him/her free in the boot?0
-
German Shepherd, no crate as would need a bus to be big enough lol. He wears RAC harness attached to the D rings inside the boot (usually under the cover).0

Focus will take a GS
So will a BMW and even a corsa
I know, I been there0 -
You can fit a crate big enough for 2 german shepherd's in a mondeo estate.
Its huge. Drop the seats down also and you can fit a whole family in there.
Also cheaper to buy than a Focus when they are used. 2008 cars starting around £4000.
So £3000 to pay for the road tax for the next 17 years.
When the running costs of a car come into play the road tax is a tiny figure. Barely worth thinking about.
Unless you comparing a tiny city car with free tax to a 3 ton supercharged gas guzzling range rover thats over £400 a year.
Even then the fuel difference would be huge compared to the tax also.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Forget the road tax.... or decide on a diesel if you do normal-high miles (10k/yr+). Its really hardly worth taking into the total cost equation after insurance and running costs!
Once you decide on the engine it makes the rest of the choice easier?
i.e. Small petrol like a Meriva/Fabia estate OR bigger diesel
If you go for the bigger option you'll likely get a lot more car for your money...
HUGE BOOT (all diesel/estate)
Mondeo
Honda Accord
Octavia - Passat
Avensis
On the other end (small petrol)
Focus Estate 1.4 Petrol
Fabia
A little different?
SAAB 9-3 diesel estate (very cheap)
BMW 3 series estate (top of price range)
Audi A4 estate
Honda CRV diesel0 -
Thanks for the suggestions. Going to view some next weekend.
I done a search for Mondeo and Octavia and can't really see any within my price/age range but will have a chat with the sales people.
At the moment I have a Fiat Punto.. so any car is going to feel massive to me. Dog goes in my back seat though and it's filthy. Dogs will only be allowed in the boot of new car.0 -
Cant see anything in your price range? Where are you looking?

If you dont cover many miles the ideal target is 120,000 miles. With a proper papertrail of servicing and its in perfect condition. In 4 years time you will have lost very little money on it.
The cars that are low mileage now will have caught up a bit so yours will be similar value. So you lose less money.
Works for me.
1MK2 Mondeo and 2 MK3 Mondeo's for £2000 ish when they were 5 years old or less and sold 4 or 5 years later for half what i paid.
£200- £250 a year in depreciation, beat that.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Have a look at Citroen C4 Picasso or Grand Picasso. Very impressive statistics and plenty of good user reviews.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
