Tablet to store and play movies? Nexus 7?

Can anyone help with this. Bought a Kindle Fire as we thought it would allow us to store and play movies but we can't. Neither has it been possible to save as MP4 and use an ap. This is movies that we own and have a digital copy of - we want to put these onto the tablet.
Also, maybe we could buy them online and store them the tablet too. I see Google play has them but I guess we would be limited to the number we are able to put on there. He had an iphone before and used to watch them on that. I assume that the ipad mini would be the best option in this case.
We've had no joy with getting the BB Playbook to play movies.
Now my husband is looking at the Nexus 7 but this can be the last tablet we buy so, can anyone point us in the right direction to ensure we get the right one, please.
Thanks.

Nexus7 will playback most if not all of your media.
It should be ok with Digital copies, but the drm in them can be a bit of a pain as you'll may need to install a player for FOX movies another for SONY etc..etc... even then those apps are very basic and still cause people problems.
I thought the Kindle Fire could play movies? what app did you try and play the movie in?Laters

Yeah, so did we. You can play LoveFilm movies but it is online streaming only. It doesn't have flash either which is a bit of a pain but the box is open now and I have downloaded some stuff so I guess we have to keep it (not happy with it though to be honest).
I'll check with my husband which one he tried. Since I posted this he has found something you can buy for £35 which lets you play movies on the Playbook and the Kindle Fire so I'll check what it is later and post it on here.0 -
This is the programme he found to convert the files: http://www.aimersoft.com/drm-media-converter.html
It is $35.99, would be interested it hear anyone's thoughts on this.0 -
There's no official support for flash on the nexus BTW.0

OK, thanks for that Steve, was unaware of that.
Have ordered another Playbook today with the code from PC World. TBH, for the money it's a great tablet - if the software I mentioned works (as it seems to) then it'll convert all movies to play. I love that I can tether it to my BB phone too. Will get hubby to play with the above software and check it works before committing to buy the 2nd PB. My other thread asking for reviews on it got deleted for some reason, just wanted to be sure before we downloaded it.0 -

==
Load dvd => download and start DVDFab => wait till conversion is complete and remove DVD (it ejects on completion) => Download Handbrake => Choose Ipad format and select converted files created by DVDFab stage => press Start => when done, drag and drop onto Blackberry.
Handbrake also allows file Q'ing for overnight conversion.

We bought that software I mentioned above. My husband puts the movie onto his computer and then copies it over to the Playbook and saves it in the videos section, also works on the Kindle Fire. It cost £22 for the unlimited version (the one above is the year version) as we found a discount code for it.0

Isn't there a Lovefilm Android app that you should be using to stream movies onto your tablet rather than trying to watch it on their desktop website?
And of course albionrovers' method for getting movies onto the Playbook will work with any other device capable of playing the format.0
