Natural Ketosis Company -diet food delivered

Hi,

Wondered if anyone had any advice on what my rights are with regards to diet food being delivered fortnightly to my home.

I ordered and received the product less than 7 days ago, via phone. Whilst ordering the sales person made reference to the company terms being found on the website - silly me I paid the first month there and then.
I then found that I had effectively been placed on a 20 week programme, of which according to their website I cannot cancel without paying for the full term - whether I use it or not. I was NOT advised of this during the phone call.

Now my problem is the fact that the "food" contains an ingredient which is causing havoc with my body - Oligofructose Syrup.

Does anyone know if I have any recourse, as otherwise I'm going to be stuck with a load of "food" which feels like it's poisoning me. (Flatulence, the runs etc) (Sorry!)

Any help would really be appreciated.

    http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/reports/unfair_contract_terms/oft311.pdf
Schedule 2, paragraph 1, states that terms may be unfair if they
have the object or effect of:
    (i) irrevocably binding the consumer to terms with which he had no
real opportunity of becoming acquainted before the conclusion of
    the contract.

I'm not going to lecture you, but I would also advise checking with a doctor before starting this diet. Especially considering that you're not supposed to remain in ketosis for longer than 2-3 months at a time and they are suggesting 20 weeks :S

These diets are basically the exact same as starving yourself, hence why they're not supposed to be taken long term.

  • Thanks so much for the help-

I'll see how they respond and post an update.

TBH I think it's as important that people are aware what this company is doing so that they don't fall into the same "trap" as me.
I know I was naive, but if I can alert one person to the pitfalls so much the better.
  • Oh, on the diet front - my doctor actually suggested a high protein diet - hence the fact I went with this company. What I didn't realise was that they has changed their name from Go Lower and therefore my research did not turn up any issues related to 'that company' until I received the food from "Go Lower."

Re ketosis - it is perfectly safe to stay in ketosis as long as you need to.

Re the content - some people do react to that ingredient - but you can get used to it over time. it is a sweetner so i imagine it isn't in the non sweet meal packs. see if you can return the items which contain the ingrediant and swap them

Slim and save is a great company and quite cheap.

or research paleo and do that instead. it all works.

Unhealthy metabolic state (ketosis). Low-carb diets can cause your body to go into a dangerous metabolic state called ketosis since your body burns fat instead of glucose for energy. During ketosis, the body forms substances known as ketones, which can cause organs to fail and result in gout, kidney stones, or kidney failure. Ketones can also dull a person's appetite, cause nausea and bad breath. Ketosis can be prevented by eating at least 100 grams of carbohydrates a day.

Basically if your levels are too high.....your body starts poisoning itself. Not all diets involving ketosis are safe for long periods of time. Cambridge is a perfect example.

Please ask your doctor to refer you to a state registered NHS dietician. A high protein diet is not necessarily the same as being in ketosis, that is very low carb and the two do not have to go together.
