Problems with Ibuyeco

Options
I recently had an accident. Well, my next door neighbour reversed in to my car.

We went through the insurance companies and they wrote my car off.

I recevied the cheque for my car, but i told them i wanted to claim the costs of the hire car and the difference in petrol costs. As the car they gave me was much bigger.

I filled out all the forms they asked twice, and they still don't seem to have done anything. The accident was september, and the payout for the car was november. They told me that i couldn't close the claim down. And that i couldn't cancel my insurance. i was being expected to pay for a car that i no longer had.

I've called them several times, and got no where. Yet they still took money. I needed to change my bank and did so, but forgot to switch over my insurance.

I recently recieved a letter from them telling me they have cancelled my policy and that i owe them money.

They wouldn't let me cancel my policy as the claim was still open, even though they were doing nothing and taking my money. Yet all of a sudden they cancel it themselves, to top it all off i've still not had the rest of my claim sorted.

What should i do?

  • I don't think you can claim the different in fuel economy back - well I've never heard of it done anyway. If you can, it's something that insurers don't seem to keen on from a quick Google.

They should have given you a hire car from when the accident happened until when you received the payment - anything over this and you can't claim as you had the option of buying another car.
  • The trouble was, i paid extra for a courtesy car (on my monthly premium). Yet i had to pay even more for the courtesy when they gave it to me. i had a 1 litre fiesta and the courtesy car given was a 1.4 astra. i've asked to claim back that money i had to pay, and they said they would look in to it. The whole time they kept me waiting they wouldn't let me cancel my insurance.

5 months after the crash, they've expected me to continue paying for a car i don't have any more. And still not fully closed the claim.

Ah, that's unusual. In my experience the courtesy car has it's own insurance.

Normally when the claim is your fault you have to pay the year - but I've never heard them wanting the full year for a no-fault claim.

Could you not have asked them to insure the replacement car?
  • i was under the impression it was all done by them, hence me paying extra at the start. i was less than happy to have to pay for the hire car.

I was quite pleased when they said that i could claim it back. But shocked to find out that no one could be bothered to sort out the claim properly.

Can i tell them where to go with this letter, as its stupid to have to pay for a car i haven't had for 5 months. Or should i tell them to take out of the money they owe me (part of the claim)

Claiming the fuel back will be difficult. The astra i suspect was newer so may have been more fuel efficient than your fiesta.

I have a 2000cc car and on a Motorway run last year i got better fuel economy figures than someone in a 1600cc car. Following each other so same traffic conditions.

Too late now but the usualy advice if you were not at fault would be phone your insurance and notify them of the incident for information only. Then claim directly from their insurance. They will be looking to save costs and will pamper you a bit.

If you get your insurance involved or no win no fee people the claim could increase. They would like to avoid that.

  • its got to the point where i can no longer be bothered to keep trying to get anything i'm owed from the rest of the claim.

I'm not happy that they've cancelled the policy and expect to pay. They've made no effort to speak to me for months, when i chased them. No all of a sudden they want money from me.

They wouldn't let me close the claim, yet they can do what they want. Surely thats not right
