Engine Warning Light on new car from Dealer

I've just completed the purchase of a second hand Vauxhall Mireva and took delivery of the car on Thursday 7 February.

Today the emissions control light came on and is stayed on after about 50 miles.

The car is still under the dealers 'warranty' (period 3 months)

What are our rights and what do we do?

NB we also bought a warranty (offered by the dealer) for VGS. On review and reading around this looks to be worthless. As its still within 14 days, if we wanted to cancel can get we get our money back?

Thanks

Take it back to the dealer and ask them to sort it. The small print on the warranty should explain when and how you can cancel. Ask the dealer while you're in.

    Welcome to Vauxhall.
Expect the engine and emission lights to come on if you fart in the car.
Sooner or later you will invest in a roll of insulating tape.
    Be happy...;)

Is this a diesel with a DPF? Have you dont many long journeys to allow it to regenerate?

Or is it a petrol car? When was it serviced last? Any receipts for it?
