Advice On Housing Situtaion Following A Seperation

A FRIEND OF MINE HAS RECENTLY SEPERATED FROM HIS WIFE AND IS KEEN TO KEEP HER AND THIER CHILDREN IN THE HOUSE. HE IS WILLING TO SIGN OVER EVERYTHING TO HER BUT AS SHE HAS NO CAREER AT THE MOMENT SHE WILL NOT HAVE HER OWN INCOME AS SUCH.....HIS MAINTAINANCE WILL COVER THE MORTGAGE ON THE WHOLE HE THINKS.
OBVIOUSLY HE WILL NEED HIS OWN PLACE WHERE THE CHILDREN ARE ABLE TO VISIT ON A REGULAR BASIS, AND WOULD LIKE TO ARRANGE A MORTGAGE FOR HIMSELF THERE. HE'S NOT SURE THAT HE CAN GET A MORTGAGE WITH KEEPING HIS NAME ON THE OTHER.

IS THERE ANYWAY IN WHICH HIS WIFE CAN TAKE OVER THE MORTGAGE ?

OR ANOTHER WAY HE CAN MANAGE HIS OWN ?

OR ANY OTHER OPTIONS THAT COULD BE CONSIDERED ??

HELP IS NEEDED AS THIS COULD BE A VERY TRICKY SITUATION
