British Gas Arrg!

I'm currently with british gas for both gas and electric, and have been having a few money problems. Last december I was short on my wage and cancelled my direct debit with british gas for both utilities, so rang british gas and set up new payment plans on 19th december, all seemed ok, however when I got paid, the gas direct debit failed, without being cancelled by myself, and the electric direct debit was pushed back to the 22nd jan. I paid the direct debit for the gas via card and re set it up the direct debit for the 1st. I also rang on the 10th jan and asked if my direct debit for the electric be taken on the 1st of feb, however british gas decided to attempt to take the direct debit in jan (costing me £6) for the trouble. Now this month again the bank cancelled the direct debit for the gas, and took the normal monthly payment for the electric, then re tried to take jans direct debit. Contacted the bank who said it was british gas who cancelled the direct debit for the gas, so I rang british gas. They now refuse to set me up on a direct debit, which I think is unfair as non of the recent troubles are my fault, its some problem with both british gas and my bank. What can I do, the person on the phone explained about pay as you go meeter but I live in a rented property and am not allowed to tamper with the meeters.

How many plans have you failed, and how long has the debt been outstanding. We need the full picture
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I have had 3 plans put in place and owe £225 on electric and £75 on gas, I was warned by british gas the last time I had problems with them, all I want to do is pay my bills in a way that suits both me and british gas.

pay it online when you have the cash available. I am terrible with DDs, they always want to come out when I am skint so I have them billed montly and pay gas 1 week and electric the next.. I am in control and can make up short payment when I can.

This has been the only way I have found which works for me.

BG can't cancel a DD on your account, only you or the bank can do that. All BG can do is fail to take the payment on a still active DD..
