  • Happy Easter all

Some great meat bargains to be had. There will be more on Monday. I try run freezer down Xmas, Easter and other Bank holidays for the reductions after too.

Busy with work so not been around much.

Looks like plenty of good news to celebrate.

Entering my last year, so pleased even though I am not there yet. I keep thinking back to how I felt at a certain point etc. Such a rollercoaster journey, not just financially but emotionally too.

Evening everyone and a Happy Easter to you all:easter:

Yes being in DMP land certainly makes you appreciate the bargains. With you HH on meat bargains!

Well the catalogue of things going wrong in our house is growing. Both the kettle and the iron have gone wrong now. The iron falls into the same category of the broken mop bucket. I'm not too bothered as I don't like ironing just as much as I don't like mopping - but the kettle:eek: got to have my cup of tea. New kettle purchased and Aldi were selling irons for £11.99 so got one of them too. Hopefully it will do the job. OH bought another mop bucket too:(:(

    Morning all,

Just wanted to wish everyone a very Happy Easter:icotbaske
Hoping for a restful day today of Easter Films and chocolate.

Hubby and I have have noticed the odd bit of spending creeping in, nothing major but bits and pieces that are not strictly budgeted for. So the plan is to tighten up again, I think we find the special holidays, like Easter and Christmas most difficult with our gang of kids and grandchildren its very easy to get carried away.

Anyway must get on , Have a lovely day x

  • Hello All

Sorry to hear about your electrical troubled Grow, like everyone else I could certainly do without an iron, I see not doing it as keeping down my electricity bill! I swapped over to an old fashioned on the hob kettle as it was quite scary how much electricity an electric kettle used and there is not a lot that can go wrong with one of those.

I must admit Julie I think it is rather tempting to slacken off with the budget a bit after the first few months of scrimping like mad and you find you actually have a bit of money left, I must admit this month was not one of my better ones and like you say it is easy to get carried away a bit.

The trouble is I have the MOT this week so most of my savings will probably get wiped out but at least I now have a year to save up for it rather than just a couple of months.

I have everyone had a good Easter.

I have filled out the application on the step change website for dmp and am waiting for the paperwork.

Anyone have an idea when they will want the first payment? I was thinking it will probably be the 1st May but I'm a bit worried as it will be too late for me and my OH to change our bank details for this month with our works and as I have a couple of the dreaded payday loans some of the money may get swallowed up, I don't want to end up too short on the first month.

Do you think it could be started on the 1st June or will my creditors not like this as it's too long? I don't mind writing to them and making two lots of token payments if needed.

I worry about the constant phone calls so I'm planning on changing the contact numbers if possible first thing tomorrow.

My biggest creditors are shop direct group, and I have a huge loan with santander, and tips on how they will be?
  • Hello Anewleaf,

If you have any debts with your current bank then it is important to open a new basic account asap as they can use the right of offset rule and can take any payments made into the account. Most bank accounts only take a week or so to be up and running. Also you with SC you can opt for either a payment to go out on the 1st or the 10th.

I would look to open an new basic account on Tuesday and once it is up and running, swap over the DD's/SO's and your wages yourself rather than wait for the new bank to switch as it can all be done in about an hour, plus you can choose what ones you want to swap over and cancel the rest with your current bank, it should give you plenty of time before the May payment. Hopefully by doing that there won't be an opportunity for any payments to be taken that you don't want to.

    Good luck.

Gulp - I've returned my paperwork via email ready for Step Change to do the necessary on Tuesday and written the letters ready to send to my Creditors. Big scary journey starting - but hoping that having always been on time with payments they will agree to reduced payments and hopefully my luck will change soon !

You could probably get it done for the 1st May but it would be better to do two months of token payments and get yourself straight and maybe try and put some money into the emergency fund. The first payment date is your decision.
