Morning all,
Have been planning my letter to HSBC all night in my head whilst coping with toothacheso first job this morning as I need to get it onto paper and out of my head.
Difficult month for us, I've had to have varifocals which cost a lot more than ready readers! Plus I've got to pay for a training course that I absolutely have to do to make more money in the future and youngest boy is having tickets for his birthday which have to be paid for. Luckily I don't have council tax or water rates to pay this month but I was hoping to put £200 in our emergency fund, ah well best laid plans.
At least this way I can budget to pay for these extras, in the past would have just stuck the glasses and the tickets on the credit card and worried about it later, I guess what I'm trying to say is for the first time in my adult life:o I'm ashamed to say I know where every penny is going and it's a really good feeling.
Hope you all have a positive day JStarted Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.

Hello Julie
I hope the toothache is a lot better now and you are feeling better.
I think we all have good and bad months, I am expecting my small savings to be wiped out with the MOT and if desperate it is going to have to be a visit to the bank of Mum and Dad, I am just keeping my fingers crossed it won't come to that. So well done on managing to find the funds for what you need.
However like you I am rather impressed with myself also that I have finally managed to budget for the first time, although I am a bit ashamed it has taken me this long to work it all out.
I hope all went ok with the letter to HSBC and wishing you good luck with them. I have just written a letter to my mortgage company complaining about the price my house is on the market for, well it has been 2 days so I like to get my snotty letters in early! I like to be a pain in the **** and remind them I am no pushover.

Well done antonic - bet you can't wait!
I received a letter today from Hellifax
'As you did not pay last month's minimum payment by the due date, we have reduced your credit limit'
Really? After being on my DMP for over a year and a half now.
'If you bring your account up to date we will consider increasing your credit limit in the future'.
Again, really? This letter was from the retail bank collections department. You'd think they would have more sense:rotfl:DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

I should imagine you are one very happy person knowing you are almost finished and well done for getting there Antonic.
The joy of the automated letter growyourown although to be honest it does give us all something to be amused about when we get one from them and it is blatantly obvious they don't bother to check before they send it.
Did Hellfax not rush in and cancel the card as soon as they knew you were DMP, Barclaycard must have done mine the minute they opened the letter as obviously I was a real potential risk of suddenly spending on my card after not doing so for 2 years and with no credit limit as they kept reducing it anyway before I went DMP.

@ GUO and @ Find
I find the auto letters funny and reassuring at the same time.
The (ir)regular credit card statements I get from HBOS reassuringly sure a NIL figure in the interest added column !.0 -
Hello All
I hope everyone is having a good day and there have been no nasty surprises for anyone. Even though the weather is rubbish I hope everyone has a good Easter weekend.
Was in a couldn't be bothered to write a letter mood today having already sent 2 off about the mortgage so I rang Barclaycard today as my statement dates look to be before the payment comes out from SC - not that I am worried about late payments with my messy credit file! I just wanted to check more which payment was going against which statement so I am on top of it but in speaking to them they have now also moved my payment due dates until after the 25th.
Also managed to get my works number removed and I may have gotten slightly confused over the correct mobile number as I never ring it. Bonus! Their own fault for wanting to update my contact details. :rotfl:

Hi everyone
Just a quick update to say that my DMP is starting on 1st April. So far out of 11 creditors MBNA are the only ones to acknowledge the DMP and accept the payment proposal and rduced interest to 0%. Have had a letter from HFC whom I have a personal loan with (who have not acknowledged the DMP or that I have written to them to explain my financial difficulties) stating that I am one payment in arrears and I have been charged for this. I am worried about my overdrafts too, I have not received any correspondence from my bank regarding the DMP and as I am charged £90 a month for these accounts I'm not sure what I should do. Do I just leave the accounts and allow the charges to increase the debit balance? Also looking for a bit of advice regarding budgetting. With regards to food bills etc what do the rest of you do to make sure you are not overspending. I know that most of you use spreadsheets which would probably be the best idea but with a new baby and a 5 year old I have very little time to sit down at the laptop and when I do I'm usually fast alseep within seconds! My budget for food is £412 so I'm thinking of dividing this into a weekly amount and then taking it out of the bank and putting it into a jar so that i can keep tabs on it - has anyone got any better advice? All in all this process is only just starting for me but I have to say it is the first time in years that I have actually felt reasonably in control of my finances and not worrying about whether I'm going to have enough to pay all the bills on time. Anyway 1 crediotor down, only 10 to go!!!0 -

When I get paid I put the food and travel budget into seperate accounts - evry time I spend on these I then transfer the exact amount to my current account. If I am short in current account and going shopping I estimate beforehand how much I will spend and put that in current account and transfer back exact amount left over. Cash never works for me but it soes fo amny others - its a case of finding what suits you .Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -

When we started our DMP we had very few replies and didn't know the situation regarding interest until we received the statement with no interest added.I am worried about my overdrafts too, I have not received any correspondence from my bank regarding the DMP and as I am charged £90 a month for these accounts I'm not sure what I should do. I would call them and ask. It is likely that your debt will increase to start out with until things settle down. NatWest charged me for the first month but after that the charges stopped. The Hellifax are still charging though. Also looking for a bit of advice regarding budgetting. With regards to food bills etc what do the rest of you do to make sure you are not overspending
I find cash works best for us. We both shop and buy food depending on our work schedule so it is hard to keep track on what the other one is spending. With cash you can see exactly where you are. Some people divide their monthly food budget by five even if it is a four week month and put that money by for emergencies.DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421
