Powered_By_Pies wrote: »No problems! It's just an idea as I had to help a friend strip down his old Subaru Impreza recently as the turbo let go and mulched the engine. He bought the car for about £2500 and a new engine was going to see him back about half that on top, so he decided to cut his losses, got it on some axle stands, get a few of us round one evening and a few beers later, the car was virtually stripped down to the shell. He ended up getting about £800 for the gearbox alone, sold the doors for £75 a piece, centre console went for £200, alloys for £500, interior bits and bobs for about £250 in total, two front seats for £175... It all adds up, and he found he even had enough money to go and get a new one straight away!
Turns out it's a bloody wonderful idea! I need to do some research but the private plate alone was valued at £450 profit on an instant valuation site! i can't believe how much the weirdest parts are going for on ebay - rear electric window buttons for £20-30 each! Mine also has heated wing mirrors and they are unbelievably high priced. I'm still looking now at what various parts will shift for, DH seems really keen and it'll be something we can do together over the next couple of weekends.
Thank you so much, now I'm off to see what 17" alloys will go for with virtually new tires and audi logos

I went into a few bad months, and made an arrangement with Vodafone to pay off £120 per month until it is all finished...thinking I would be able to cut corners elsewhere and manage my finances. But I was not. I ended up having to take a "remedy" payday loan two months ago. Having been through this mess, I kept it low and took £150 which I repaid prompty. I was still having troubles next month, but I reduced it to £100, and have just repaid that as well. I would like to reduce it further this month, and take £80 but they won't let me have it... My logic was that I will slowly reduce the amounts and then stop taking it completely when my phone bill is paid off and that huge expense is off my bill. But my logic proved irrelevant, as I can't take the money.
Can I call Vodafone and ask them to not take the money and just put my account in arrears until I am in a better position? Once again they will take their payment imminently and I am not sure how to even cancel or not permit it, given it is not managed through Direct Debit....
I feel sooooooo stupid, I just can't wait for all of this to be over...
I have nothing that I could sell and no one I could ask to lend some money.

Time Flies ....
It was on this date last year that I made my final DMP payment and became DF. (Thanks for all your help Payplan).
Since becoming DF, I now have my life back and have money to spend (if I want to, but my frugality is hard to break !:D).
So for all you other long term DMP`rs (like I was), take heart that YOU can also get there like I have.0 -
Congratulations Antonic :T :T posts like yours give me an increased sense of hope as I enter month 2
More car news from me... new baby is being picked up now! I'm mostly over the guilt now thanks to you lovely people and a good friend kicking my rear end. I did some insurance quotes yesterday and I was a little disappointed that it only dropped by a small amount. Decided it was better than nothing but still brooded on it. Just called my insurer to switch and it's dropped £13 a month for the remainder of the policy
enough to cover the tax that's due again in 6 months! If you'd told me 6 months ago that I'd be this happy about it I'd have laughed in your face!
And in other MSE news... took my prescription in and decided to ask if there was a cheaper alternative and YESbuying over the counter enabled me to utilise mum's staff discount so I saved enough to cover the cost of the yellow sticker cake I bought to cheer myself up over the loss of my old car/guilt.
Been a very good MSE day for me and means my budget going forward is a little more relaxed (hoping my petrol costs drop now too with the smaller and more functional car)
I'm finding it difficult to get the grin off my facewish I could spread this feeling to you all, especially Sazzie who I'm thinking of and sending my thoughts to.

ETA: by budget relaxed I mean little more for emergency fund each month - I've been struggling with the budget constraints mentally - it's always stuck to but I stupidly stress about it in my darker moments...at 3am...when I can't sleep...and I'm obsessingLBM 17th Oct13 - SC DMP - DFD 10th Feb 2018

Sorry I'm not much of a poster at the moment, I don't feel I've properly joined the 'gang' yet! but I have missed my first payments and the calls have started and .... drum roll please...I was brave and answered one from Capital One ! I was dreading this moment as I'm nervous of the whole thing and can't cope with ar%^y people on the phone but they just took my details, asked if I gave authority for them to speak to StepChange which I did and said they wouldn't contact me now for 30 days and wished me a nice day...
that was it...
No 'can you make a payment now, today' or any other demands just 'ok, it will be passed to our other department and we will contact Stepchange'
phew!!!
The cynic in me though wonders if this is the calm before a storm!
xDMP journey about to begin...
£14,500ish to clear:eek::jTime to get my life back!:j0 -

Instead of StanwithaPlan maybe it should be StanintheGang?
My advice (and I tell this to everyone) is to take the calls and let the following roll off your tongue.... "I've entered into a DMP with Step Change, my reference is XYZ and they will be in touch with you shortly with an offer of payment".
Say it with a smile so you sound nice and confident and if they do try to guilt or pressure you simply tell them once again "I've entered into a DMP with Step Change, my reference is XYZ and they will be in touch with you shortly with an offer of payment"
I tend to believe that each creditor is allowed a call LOL but then after the first call then repeat "I've entered into a DMP with Step Change, my reference is XYZ and they will be in touch with you shortly with an offer of payment" and then go on to say "I have asked for all contact regarding this debt to be in writing only, please do not call me again as it is harassment, can I please take your full name as I am recording the names, times and dates of all calls should I need them as evidence for a complaint in future"
Smile, be confidentdon't get stressed as it helps nobody, don't shout or swear as there is no need to be rude
LOL
Within a couple of weeks you shouldn't be getting any calls at all and any letters you do get are probably just to confirm acceptance or a default which is great (keep them btw) anything else let SC know about
It's easysee how many times I've smiley faced typing this?
