:wave:Morning all
Welcome to all the newbies
Glad to see some exceptional progress is being made towards those DFDs.
Unfortunately over the past few weeks my lodger ex has had some pretty grim news about his ongoing illness and I'm still not sure I've come to terms with it. What I do know is that without MSE I would be in a much worse place, I understand now that my normal reaction to such a problem would be to throw money at, buying things to try to make it easier. This time, though I've been tempted I've resisted and am making do with what we have. I am also confident I will be able to manage when I am eventually living alone.
My income is also being drastically cut as overtime has been lost due to rescheduling of rotas, but its not happened yet & I have a month in hand so I'll factor that in what it does actually happen. Not working overtime at the moment might be a blessing due to the home commitments.
Keep up the good work, I'll keep reading.
Hope things get better soon Sazzie, you know we are always here to listen if you need any support.

It'll cost more to fix than we've spent on it in purchasing and maintenance costs in the 31 months we've had it. My only concern was whether I'd been driving something dangerous around and thankfully not. On the bright side the purchase and maintenance comes down to just over £25 per month for the life of the ownership (I'm very impressed by that) and we'll get a couple of hundred for it as scrap. I'll be very sorry to see her go but it's a car and she's kept us safe, warm, dry and mobile for a long time.
The better news is DH had money set aside to replace his car (a lot more than I realised) he's buying a cheaper replacement for himself and is out right now trying to find a cheap run around for me. . Sadly I haven't had time to build up enough of a car fund myself yet but we're in a good position. Hopefully the replacement will be cheaper to insure too (he's looking at smaller engines).
Not the intended outcome but a positive situation nonetheless and as I've not been (unintentionally) doing anything dangerous I'm happy enough and feeling very lucky that things have worked out this way.

Sorry to hear about the dead car but great to hear that you have a solution :jLBM 10/1/12 ~ DFW Start 6/2/12: £82,344 ~ Now Zero:staradmin:starmod::staradmin Debt free 17th April 2015 :staradmin:starmod::staradmin

Thanks TTFTM, he's got one. Picking it up tomorrow once it's taxed. However, it's cost more than planned and I've got a massive attack of the guiltsI'm just trying to think up ways to maximise the income from selling the old one to reset the balance. The new one looks really good, very low mileage, fully serviced and 12 months MOT. It's also smaller so cheaper to run and insure.
Just need to shake these silly feelings of guilt. I didn't ask him to buy one or to spend that much but I feel absolutely dreadful

What are the actual issues with it, if you don't mind me asking?
It might not visually be the best way to do it, but if you have a garage and the OH has some reasonable tools, it might be worth stripping as many parts off it as possible before handing it to a scrappy. If it's the Audi you'd be surprised how much some of the parts can go for - VAG change their engine codes so often that the average Joe looking for a specific part generally ends up on eBay as most motor traders either give you the runaround or don't know the codes themselves.
Besides which, a scrappy will only pay bottom-end fee for a motor with the intention of maximising profits by then charging close to trade on as much as they can when people take parts off of it - money that could be going into your pocket, not theirs!0 -

Not 100% sure what's wrong but the alloys alone could go on ebay for more than scrap man will pay. That's a great idea, will run it past DH. May mean me doing a lot of the physical work/breaking down but I'm up for go at it. It also has a personalised number plate. You have certainly put a great idea in my mind. We've really struggled to get parts (the replacement pipe that broke had to be shipped from Germany). We'd only really considered stripping it of the stereo and CD changer and we have room to keep it off the road so definitely worth a try.
I'm getting it back tomorrow and will get it SORNed to claim the remaining two months of road tax. Was thinking of posting it on an audi FB page/forum to see if that'd shift it for more than scrap but this seems like a good plan too. Will have a look at the failure certificate when it's back home. I was more concerned that I'd unintentionally put the kids at risk by driving around in it.
Thank you for the fantastic idea.

Sorry to hear about the car Kate, but sounds like you've got a good replacement. Don't feel guilty about the money, what's yours is yours and what's his is yours, simples!DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

He doesn't seem even slightly bothered, it's just me being silly. There's a lot more to our financial situation than meets the eye but I've had a kick up the backside from a good friend and I'm feeling a bit better now.

No problems! It's just an idea as I had to help a friend strip down his old Subaru Impreza recently as the turbo let go and mulched the engine. He bought the car for about £2500 and a new engine was going to see him back about half that on top, so he decided to cut his losses, got it on some axle stands, get a few of us round one evening and a few beers later, the car was virtually stripped down to the shell. He ended up getting about £800 for the gearbox alone, sold the doors for £75 a piece, centre console went for £200, alloys for £500, interior bits and bobs for about £250 in total, two front seats for £175... It all adds up, and he found he even had enough money to go and get a new one straight away!0 -
Hello I'm new here have been burying my head in the sand re debts anyway finally faced up to it and have started the early stages of a dmp with sc. I have opened a new bank account waiting for paperwork to come in the post to sign. I was going to transfer all funds inc od into this. Od is included in the dmp. Basically should I pay token amounts to the creditors this month to save some money? I'm also concerned as we have an nram together mortgage the unsecured part has to go in the dmp I'm scared how this could affect our mortgage? Also what happens if someone doesn't accept the dmp? I feel relief and worried at the same time it seems to good to be true that we could be getting out of this mess! Also while on a dmp is it likely that we will get a new phone contact it's important for work thanks
Hi Mrs L
I'm of no help to you at all - but am in exactly the same position and am just about to start with SC. I am feeling exactly the same - sick with worry and then a bit relieved as if I am finally moving forwards a bit. It does feel a little of an emotional roller coaster.
Did you set up your bank account with your current bank or did you move to a new one?
SC told me that most people to generally to accept - but it does seem too good to be true.
Thanks for your post - it did make me feel a little more normal!0
