markwoods10 wrote: »Hi all,
well been on DMP since Jan, had few phone calls halifax cc and a short term loan company both said they would not accept but heard anything since march ( should i be worried)
also I have a Halifax ultimate reward account, have tried to down grade but they seem to keep messing it up and im still paying the account fee, i have today lost my mobile phone, I called halifax to see what would happen if i tried to claim and they said all ok ( they checked my bank account using a/c no and sort code. and proceeded to set up a claim.
is this legal/moral for me to do this if i am on DMP ( I am being lent the money for the policy excess £30.00) i supposed you can say " he who dares wins rodney" i guess all they can do is reject the claim.
any thoughts from anyone would be helpful , oh BTW Halifax has stopped charging overdraft fees
also where is the template to write to creditors to request freezing interest and charges as some are still charging ( Halifax credit card the main one)
I am just a bit worried that all seems to be going ok on the DMP ???
my credit file shows that I am DMP toois this good or bad or is it better to have a default as they seem reluctant to do this?
good luck all
debt free date march 2019 14k to go
Over 2 years in and I am still struggling to get defaults, I have almost begged some of my creditors to default me and they still won't. I do intend to fight all of the AP/DMP markers when I am done but if I don't win, am not really that bothered as we never want credit again.
Try this for the ones still charging interest, use something like this and adapt it for each creditor:You

Dear Sir/Madam
Re: [Creditor name] account No: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Thank you for your letter/statement concerning the above account. I am sorry that you feel unable to suspend interest/charges on the above account.
As you are aware, I/we am/are in a DMP with XXXXXXXX, reference number XXXXXXXX. The majority of my/our other creditors have agreed to the offer of payment and agreed to suspend any interest charges still accruing. They have accepted that to continue to charge interest would not assist us in my/our present financial difficulties, and can only serve to increase my/our total debt.
I/we have already paid considerable sums in interest to my/our account. If interest charges continue, the monthly instalments I/we am/are paying will not even cover that interest. Also, the cooperation of my/our other creditors who have agreed to freeze interest already would be put at risk.
I am aware that XXXXXXX subscribes to the Lending Code which states that lenders will consider reducing or suspending interest and charges if these would cause the debt to increase or lead to the repayment term becoming too extended. I would therefore be grateful if you would reconsider your decision not to freeze the interest. This would mean that the monthly payments I/we make would actually reduce the balance outstanding to your company.
Please consider this letter as a complaint about the interest charges and fees you are continuing to apply to my account. I would like to see these stopped immediately and previous interest charges refunded.
If you are unable to help me with this issue, I will have no alternative but to take this case to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully

I guess all the templates really need an update as the FOS is now the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)
but it all means the same.0 -
New brake pads and discs, oil change and then there was this strange whistling noise coming from the engine. Turned out to be a split hose which cost £100 on its own:eek::eek:
Why are car parts so expensive?
The only thing I know is if it has balls or wheels it is gonna cost ya one way or another :0
Hope you are finding some wiggle room in the emergency fund and or budget.

As far as I can see from the FCA website, complaints will still go via the FOS

When I challenged them they refunded a full years interest and then reduced my rate. Was a complicated way of doing things and not ideal but better than before I challenged.

Thanks HH,
S'funny how differently they treat each case, when they say they follow a set procedure! That's why I'm checking statements carefully and only giving them two more months maximum to default me

Hi all,
I've been a absent for a bit - licking my wounds so to speak but definitely not succumbing to ostrich syndrome!
Last Thursday I came home to a voice mail from the hospital cancelling due to an emergency. Exactly what kind of emergency gives a surgeon 5 days notice is beyond me (and I've tried everything to find out!) it took THIRTY phone calls over the whole of Friday morning but I have a new surgery date of 2nd May...my birthdayit's that or wait until June so I accepted it. My leg, however, doesn't seem to have realised it didn't go ahead as it's agony.
As for debts...well!!!
HSBC are STILL sending wads of letters and I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Tesco Bank last Saturday. Utterly vile! Completely refused to listen to me, demanded payment and told me they won't stop the regular contact until I pay up!
Today I've received a letter from each, one demanding £25, the other £820 "or else". Not sure what "or else" refers to but it upset me a little. Topped off with a SC email detailing a problem with my income. Had a headless chicken moment/hour then called SC.
Absolutely fantastic man on the phone. The income problem is that I have more than the original plan stated (phew!) due to tax credits paying again so problem solved and I will start paying by direct debit on 10th May hurrah! :j
We also discussed the tesco and HSBC issues, the details have been forwarded and SC are taking care of them. The plan should be all set and sent out by the end of Tuesday (only delayed because of the bank holiday) and creditors will be in receipt of details by the end of next week. How long it'll take them to come back is up to them but SC and I have done our parts.
Not a totally smooth set up but much easier than I expected and helped infinitely by facing up to it all. So, if nothing changes I'm 79 payments away from freedom

Aaaaand... drumroll please... IT'S DONE!
Less than 3 hours after I posted this I received a text from SC to tell me it's up and running and my first payment will be taken on 10th May :j
I'm so so pleased. Huge thanks to you all for your help and support. I have carefully checked my bank and "splurged" on some posh ice cream that was on offer (£2) to celebrate from the entertainment budget. Of course I won't be opening it for a couple of hours (slimming world meeting tonight first) but it's certainly improved my mood after a pretty awful couple of weeks
