  • Hi all.

Bit of ostrich syndrome going on here too :(

Bank account is all set up, a huge drama to get salary switched over due to payroll helpline being VERY unhelpful. A week of doing the work of two people and DH away for most of it and increasing pain levels. I've done the absolute bare minimum debt wise. Tomorrow is the first default and it all begins.

I'm fully aware I've done myself no favours but that changes NOW. I have freed up a large part of my work day already (woke before 6am so logged on and some work) I can now ensure everything is ready for the DMP, token payments made and all step change details correct.

I'm feeling strong and ready to face the fears. This isn't going to kill me. It is me dealing with the problem and fixing it. My new mantra is "I can do this". So I will.

Next Monday , I am going on my long waited for Battlefield Tour round the D Day Beaches with my Dad, which some of you will remember was my incentive for getting DF.

The whole cost of the holiday and my spends (approx £550) has been paid for in cash (via my dads credit card).

And we are both looking forward to it !.

Please take this as inspiration that you CAN get DF !.

    Regards.

  • Morning all,

quick update, things are FINALLY in motion. I called the old bank last night and checked all DDs are cancelled. I transferred the last few pounds into my co-op account and for the first time in around 4 years I have a current account in credit! :D

Today is payday and I haven't been paid :) this means that the HR management has sorted the issues and my salary will go into my new account tomorrow. The relief is enormous.

I slept really well last night despite knowing I'm going to be defaulting today. Thanks to the rain I'm already in pain today but I'm doing okay. I'm still really nervous but the calls and letters are unlikely to start yet and when they really get going I'll be in hospital - sort of a blessing in disguise as I won't be able to take any calls.

I'm off work tomorrow because of the teachers strike so I'm wondering if it's worth calling all the creditors to discuss things or if I'm better off leaving it to step change? Probably the latter as this forum has drummed into me "in writing and signed for". (I guess I've just answered my own question)

So I'm at the starting gate, I'm battered and bruised (physically and emotionally) but really ready to take the first steps. Thank you all for the help, advice and support.

    Good Morning fellow dmp'ers...

New Stepchange statement out today.... now into my 5th month and I must say the time is flying and I love seeing the debts going down each month...

Unfortunately due to  creation charging interest my balance is sitting just over the £58k mark.. but as long as they do what they have promised when there statement comes in I should be able to adjust my SC figures and be into the 57k's... :T

    Still loving my dmp...

  • Still in anticipation mode here, 6 days till first payment to SC. Still surprised about lack of contact from the credit cards, ticking off the token payments, and for now the companies are playing along.

Also sorted budget, we know what we have where. Money aside for all the annual bills and even a small pot for Xmas (In March? Never done that in my life, Oh Yes, that's why I owe 60K :D)

Already forgotten about credit and credit ratings and I am actually finding this whole process quite liberating, I don't feel chained by the debts anymore.

Hi Guys I need a bit of help and support.
I'm just about to start my DFW journey though I've been on these boards for a fair while. but feeling a abit anxious about it.In around a huuuuge 10k worth of unsecured debt at the moment I may actually have the MSE's first unsolveable debt problem!
Made my first step today by writing to Barclays to freeze interest on an ever increasing OD balance due to all their monthly charges.
    Next stop Stepchange.
I guess the real thing eating me is actually having to go through this at all.Was doing great up til October last year when i lost my job and now the savings have gone.Luckily I am back temping for a while so we'll see what happens from there. Its amazing how life changes when something unexpected creeps up on you. I'll certainly be teaching my kids the value of having something nested away to fall back on

I am married but will attempt this alone as my wife has her own worries at the moment plus the debt built up is all mine.Shes great and will be supporting me all the way.
I've already posted about this but I'm concerned about come re-mortgage time(next year) and it seems I might have to stay with my current lender for the forseeable future.-I wonder if SC can advise on this too?
Also my IFA is also a close friend so I guess at some point I will need to pour the beans to him but will deal with that once the time comes.
Looking foward to 'speaking' with some of you for some much love 'n support!

I guess I also wanted to ask if a DMP was the right way to go for you guys - need a bit of encouragement in what is a daunting journey never having been in a position to deal with anything like this before...
