Congrats Puzzcat, we're just starting out on a DMP, first payment goes on the 10th. I've read your diary - it's helped me no end. I've had a few panic moments trying to get this set up, the last one was a default notice from Barclays - they do try to make them look scary!!! I am really looking forwards to getting a few months in, and then maybe I can start to breath again :-)

I'm so pleased that my ramblings have helped someone!! It does all get easier its just the bumpy take off that's a little scary.. let's hope for a smooth journey for all of us. x

    why what's happened today?

Stepchange messaged us online to say one of our creditors (Barc overdraft) have returned our payment. First one was accepted no problem.

I have checked the account numbers etc with stepchange and they are correct. They dont know why they returned payment.

I have an appt with barc tomorrow to find out but am stressing big time. All been running smoothly till now, cant fault stepchange they have been brill.

Sorry to hear you have a blip... I'm sure it will be easily sorted once you have spoken to them, its not like your not trying to pay!!! And as we always say they can't have what you haven't got... Keep your chin up, and remember you are dealing with your debts, be proud of that. x

  • Thanks for your help x
  • Thanks. I have now heard from 6 of 9 creditors. All have accepted the plan and froze interest, Tesco didnt mention either way in their reply. Waiting on santander but dont envisage any problems as they sent a nice understanding letter. Halifax I gave a digit wrong on the number to stepchange so thats delayed it. Only one I have not heard anything from yet is Barclaycard.

One of our debts is with Tesco. We had the same letter. Not heard from them since, and they froze interest from day one. We are now 18 months in, so I would worry.

Most of our creditors said they would review after 6 months. Lloyds tried to change the terms after 6 months, but after a letter or two, they got back on board.

    Hi
Same thing happened to us with Barclays except I picked it up rather than sc. It transpired that our OD account with Barclays went from collections/ normal acc to recovery team ( closed now) and our payment went into suspense and was returned to sc! They resent it and it is fine now ( think!). I only spotted it cos I could view my account online and only saw one payment instead of 2 ( the first one was missing but the second was fine!). Now it is in recovery I can't access it to check but believe they will send me a statement every 6m.

Try not to worry, I have found Barclays to be really good about all this x
  • Hi,

Just found out today that the National Debt Counselling service have sent my details to Payplan ( they refer to both pay plan and step change)

Does anyone have any experience of them as I know that many of you seem to be with SC

Payplan have texted me tonight to ask for a good time for them to ring me tomorrow to discuss 'options'. Have that sick feeling again despite me knowing they are ringing me to help, now worried I won't be able to do a DMP :-(

    Thanks in advance

I did my DMP with Payplan and never regretted it.

They suggested I take out an IVA to clear my debts , which I firmly and politely rejected because of possible implications for my job.

I can understand why you are nervous but why not be positive about it and think they are helping you get out of a bad situation and everything will be better for you at the end ? - I did and made it through 90 months of living off the bones of my bottom.

  • Hi We are nearly under way with our DMP, can't wait to get started now. First payment to SC is 1st March. Just logged on to our old bank accounts and seen that due to charges we are over our agreed overdraft meaning more charges. The Banks should be aware now, will I have to swallow these charges up or are their grounds to get them refunded and stop further charges?

    Thank you
