  • Good morning DMPers new and old :hello:

Am on a massive high here as have just received my redundancy payment and have completely paid of 2 debts and topped up our endowment shortfall fund to worst case scenario level. It's never felt so good to pay out money :rotfl:

So just a couple of weeks short of our 2 year DFW/DMP anniversary, we now owe £34,142.84 and have paid off £48,201.16 or 58.54% of our debt :j

I know I am going to be grinning all day :D

All thanks to the support of this thread :T

    :iloveyou:

    That's made me grin too

    Well done

Very pleased for you twin :)

    Oh yeah!!!!!

So I recently boasted that my Vanquis card balance is now under it's credit limit thanks to my DMP :) I checked my Barclaycard this morning as it's statement day and this is as well now! Wahoo!!!

Feels good and it's only gonna carry on getting better :)

  • Hello I've been reading through this thread for the last few weeks/months.
I got in contact with step change on Monday and felt so much relief after speaking to them.
I'm not yet ready to own up to my debts on here but once I get everything together then I will post once DMP is set up.
I've got jus a few questions to ask, do I need to get in contact with creditors or will step change do that, the lady I spoke to at step change indicated that they would get in contact and set up the plan, once I had filled out the form.
How long after opening coop account did you get info re account numbers and new debit cards.
Has anyone ever been turned downby the coop for the cashminder account.
    Thanking you in advance x

    Hi Beans!

    Welcome to MSE :)

All in your own time m'dear, no judgement here only a bunch of folk helping each other along and lending an ear (or eye ;) ) when it's needed!

I'm with SC and have been for about 8 months and all is running smoothly so far barring a couple of blips at the start and a few nervy moments when I started to get default letters and letters from Debt Collection agencies.

None of these need to be worried about, it's all part of the proces - follow SC's advice and keep them posted as things progress and you'll be fine and obviously you can post on here as much as you like!

As for contacting your creditors, I think it's your choice as some folk on here seem to have done it while others didn't... I personally did and was glad of it :)

I only got in touch to pass on the DMP ref and SC's contact number and while the vast majority were fine (especially PDL's oddly enough, I expected them to be the worst) and it was a huge relief as I was comfortable that they had been informed and I didn't need to worry about SC accidentally missing anyone (although I'm sure they wouldn't have and indeed didn't).

My advice if you do contact them is make a note of who you spoke to, date & time and any comments made at the time which seem significant - I also confirmed back to SC once I'd done this with all the info I'd gathered... Again, I think it's your choice but I'm a little anal like that and it gave me a bit more confidence in the process too :)

I can't help with the Coop question though I'm afraid but I'm sure someone will be along soon :)

    Congratulations and good luck :)

    Thanks MB
It's all a bit scary at the moment I'm getting more and more phone calls which I must admit I'm not answering anymore.
SC said that hopefully 1st payment to them should be 12th feb, so hopefully after that the calls may not be coming in as thick an fast, or am I wrong in thinking that.
All debts are due to credit cards so no PDL.
Just can't wait to start paying so that I can be on my way to my Debt free date, it's a long while off SC have quoted 12 years, however I seem to have a very good food budget so hopefully out of that I can make some savings and pay some CC off quicker, is that how it works am I able to do that or do I just continue with SC required payment.
I'm sure I'll find my way, this board already is answering most questions by reading through the previous posts.
    Thanks x

    No worries m'dear :)

Ok, you're still have your head buried in the sand a little (not entirely, I'd say just up to eyebrow level LOL) have you missed payments with your CC's?

I'm guessing if SC have told you a collection date that you have your DMP ref already? If that is the case then my advice would be to speak to your creditors and tell them that they are to stop calling as you are entering into a DMP with Step Change and give them the ref. and their contact number (which I'm sure they will have but this removes that excuse) SC will contact them anyway but in the meantime the creditors are welcome to speak to SC directly and that you only want to be contacted by post - this should knock most calls on the head :)

Keep a note of who you spoke to at each creditor along with date and time and note anything you think is noteworthy and keep those notes safe! Then if anyone calls again you can tell them who you spoke to an when which is oddly satisfying...

If you have missed a payment then you can write to each creditor confirming again your DMP ref and SC's number and asking only to be contacted by post and that anything else will be considered harassment (I'm sure SC have gone through all of this anyway and I believe it's covered in their start up documentation) and give them a token payment - I have seen on this forum people say they have sent £1 postal orders with their letters by recorded delivery.

All of this is saying to your creditor that you are in financial difficulty, you are seeking help and have contacted a debt charity and are actively putting a plan in place to repay your debt.

It will all be ok, everyone seems to go through the same initial set up worries :)

  • Thanks again everyone. I'm just in a panic. I'll try contacting them once the charges are confirmed, but any time I've spoken to them in the past they have been less than sympathetic.

And to round off my delightful start to the week, I had someone at the door yesterday, I think from Barclaycard. Told him I don't speak to anyone here and closed the door and he left.

Bank stuff arrived today, am now just waiting on 1 more bill DD to be confirmed and I can get it all going.

I know things can only get better, but finding it hard just now.
