I'm feeling panicky today. Thanks to fees, bank was short by £10 and they have bounced my mortgage, so will have to get that sorted. Other bank account has bounced about 7 Paypal DDs after I failed to notice the funding option had changed and was no longer instant from my debit card (nearly all for amounts under £1 and none over £2, argh!), so that will be nearly £200 in fees next month which we can't afford and will have to come off the tax credits/child benefit which is paid into that account. The money should have been there even for DD, but again there were fees I hadn't realised were coming off and that was another £50 away.
New bank account stuff hasn't arrived yet, so all in all I'm feeling very stuck and helpless just now.
I think it would be worth giving you DMP provider a call. Also the CAB may be able to help. Finally it may be worth contacting the banks themselves and explaining the situation. Sometimes they show a heart and reverse charges, especially since you are in financial difficulty.
Hope you can get things sorted without too much hassle.0 -

Hi
I agree, give them a call. As they were for small amounts and you are in genuine hardship, they may be reasonable and reverse the charges. I know that when I got charges for changing bank accounts from some suppliers who tried the old acc even though I had paid them directly - withdrew the charges when I telephoned to explain. Some people are human after all.
Good luck, let us know how you get on0 -
Ive been on a self managed DMP for the last 2 years however due to a change in circumstance I can no longer afford the payments that have been set up, I have spoken to Stepchange who have been very helpful and are setting me up on a DMP with them, Im so grateful to them for all their help!Debt free once - Back again | Current debt: £2479.50 - January 2025 | Make £2025 in 2025 #11 - £41/£20250

I am having a few problems with some conflicting advice from Payplan which has resulted in one of my payments to them sitting undistributed for a month - and the resulting grief now kicking off from creditors! To be fair, Payplan have really helped us out over the last couple of years and this is the first blip but it has got me thinking about the possibility of going self-managed again.
Can anyone who is self-managed advise me on how to go about it, did you go through a CAB initially, did you have to go through the proving income /outgoings/balances etc all over again? Have you found it stressful or difficult? Does it give you any benefits or flexibility? Have all creditors accepted self-management or have any tried to insist you go through a debt management company/charity? Any regrets about going self-managed?
I'd be grateful for any advice you can offerThanks

Hi Allypops
I am self-managed with NEDCAB and it is very straightforward. You fill in income and expenditure form but do not have to send statements or payslips. They provide templates for letters to creditors and have all their addresses and details. It's a really easy website to use and only one of my creditors (MBNA) muttered that they would prefer to deal with Stepchange but since then they have been completely on board. Definitely recommend you give their website a look.
Good luck with it allDeeBee0 -

Thanks for the reply. I will definitely have a look at that site.
I am a bit worried about Lloyds....are they one of your creditors? They seem to enjoy making me squirm so I don't know if they would be likely to play ball.Allypops

Another vote for a NED CAB self managed DMP here.
Are Lloyds TSB still charging you interest and have they defaulted you? They were one of my biggest problems until I asked them to default me, it took a while but they did it in the end and refunded all charges. Debt is with Cabot now, who have been extremely helpful.

katy_ann - hope it works out for you with Stepchange but if it doesn't, don't forget you can manage your own DMP via the NED CAB website.

:wave:HI Ally Pops & katy_ann
Hi everyone
Not the first complaint we've heard about Payplan this week, wonder what is going on there ??
NED CAB seems very popular for self-managed, seems to be highly recommend around the forums, good luck with it, whatever you decide to do.
Katy-ann, I am with SC and recommend them, and you probably already know this, but I do understand the way they distribute payments is different to some other DMP's so be aware it might affect how (quickly) your debts are paid back.
Some Feb & March SC DMP start-ups coming up, just for newbie info, one thing I didnt realise at first was that the SC payment is collected on the 1st or 8th of the month. but the payments to creditors dont go til the 25th, which means there can be quite a time lag for creditors, so try to keep up the token payments if you need to explaining when they will receive the SC payments. ( I didn't do this as my head was firmly in the sand with my hands over my ears, but it woud've probably saved me some grief )
Remember we are here if things crop up that worry you - or you need to vent:DDebt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Good morning DMPers new and old :hello:
Am on a massive high here as have just received my redundancy payment and have completely paid of 2 debts and topped up our endowment shortfall fund to worst case scenario level. It's never felt so good to pay out money :rotfl:
So just a couple of weeks short of our 2 year DFW/DMP anniversary, we now owe £34,142.84 and have paid off £48,201.16 or 58.54% of our debt :j
I know I am going to be grinning all day
All thanks to the support of this thread :T
