    Hi Quarry.

Quite a few of us feel the same way about SC, they are a charity but turn people away; what's that about?! You'll see that when people have spoken out about them on here they get chased along and hushed. The good news is the NED CAB and debtline sites help anyone. Plenty of us here to support also.

    Good luck

    HHx

Thanks again HHx. I have come to the conclusion that StepChange 'could do better'! I won't be going back to them.

    Q.
  • To be honest I'm incredibly lucky that I have not lived in it for over a year so I am certainly not sad, just a pain having to deal with the process and the debts.

However it is a very long drawn out process that only usually happens when you are in mortgage arrears so I would worry less about the house at the moment and just concentrate on finding a way to offer what you can afford and who best to seek advice from.

Is there a friend or someone who can help you sort it out as well as advice from other people mentioned if you feel you are not up to dealing with it yourself. I know it is hard at first but you do get used to dealing with them after a few months.

Good luck and I am sure things won't be as bad as you imagine it to be, I think a lot of us think the worst things happen and it really is not the case.

Hi all, no post from creditors today (not sure if this is a good thing) but did recieve first bank statement from coop, strange to see an account in credit after all these years living from overdraft, also they included money off vouchers to use in coop store, added bonus!
No news still on OH's possible job loss but feeling abit more positive today, they cant have what we havent got so bring it on! Whatever happens we will face it as a family, ive spent so much wasted time worrying about money and im not letting it spoil the good things in my life!
Hope u all have a stress free weekend

Quarry, here's the link for the NED CAB DMP page:

    http://mymoney.nedcab.org.uk/moneyadvice/dmp.asp

Hope this helps. How long do you have to wait until you receive the state pension?

Although it's not good news that you are worse off on your occupational pension that you would be on benefits, at least anything you can do to top up your income will be yours.

It's a shame SC couldn't offer anything to help.

Hello catandy. I'm resisting the £1 route as long as I can but in the end a DMP isn't totally secure I suppose because people on DMPs could lose their jobs or become ill. StepChange suggested I sell my house but failed to understand that my mortgage is much lower than the cheapest rents, I wouldn't get housing benefit because I have a small occupational pension and would struggle to find a property to rent because of my low income.
I've got a bit of time left before I'm forced to stop paying my creditors and hope to find work I can do from home (I am unwell ) before I run out of options.

The best of luck to you.
    Q.:)

Have you tried Payplan? They seemed to be very helpful at my initial enquiry. I will find out for definite if they can help us on Monday and whether we will go for a DMP or not

Its great to hear from someone who has survived a DMP. I can't wait for the day that I have a positive balance with the c-0p. I have also spent so much time worrying and working out finances. Have done nothing else for two days solid from waking to sleeping.

  • Thanks everyone for the advice yesterday, I can't quote - but I will be sending the letters etc, although today seems to be a bit quieter, maybe the message has gotten through?

Glad it is a bit quieter for you. Things do settle down within a couple of months.
