Little update from me. I have today had a mortgage payment holiday approved for next month. This has just enabled me to pay off MBNA and chunk of Tesco. It's also taken my oustanding debt to £5899 meaning I have paid off 90.04% of the DMP.

Hope everyone not feeling too blue being back at work.

Fantastic achievement HH you're on the home leg now and we will all be counting down those last few months until your debt free day with you!

It does seem odd but it's not unusual. We had two bank accounts with Halifax one with an overdraft of £2,400 and the other with £800 both treated differently. Our Halifax credit cards were also treated differently. It was to do with the amount owed apparently and how much can be paid back.

Have you challenged Halifax treating accounts differently? The FOS take a dim view of this and we beat NatWest with this defence, so it's worth a go .....

    Hi All,

Lovely to hear such good news from so many on here about getting interest frozen and approaching the end of their DMP, I have only just stated on this journey and to be honest the end is so far away I can't think about that at the moment!!

This morning I had a letter from Sainsbury Finance saying they were charging £25 for a letter telling me they were defaulting me on my loan. Does this sound right to anyone. I tried to phone Stepchange completely forgetting it was a Saturday. I did nearly pluck up the courage to ring Sainsburys and at the last moment chickened out. I still feel emotionally strong enough to speak to any of them. I think I would either start crying or shouting, neither of which would really help the situation. I'm thinking a letter might be the way to go, just to see if they have accepted SC offer or frozen interest just generally what's going on???

Sorry to have rambled on here, I think I might not be coping as well as I think so nice just to get it off my chest.

Thanks all and a belated Happy New Year.

    Hi

Adding to your debt when you are seeking help is against good practice guidelines so you have a very good chance of getting refund.. Challenge it. If no joy complain, if no joy FOS, seemples. Make sure communications in writing.

In the OFT's view, creditors should consider reducing or stopping interest and charges where a borrower evidences that he is in financial difficulty and is unable to meet repayments as they fall due or when he can only make ‘token’ repayments such that his level of debt would continue to increase if interest and charges continue to be applied.

In my case with M&S they then reinstated charges on another account to make it equitable! Grrrrrr. FOS said that they were entitled do so it was I was then over minimum repayment. Lesson is fight as hard as you can at the start peeps.

    Always worth a challenge though.

I accepted we win some we loose some but don't give up the fight.

Ugh I had forgotten that about M&S. Thanks for the wise reminder twin :o

It's definitely more difficult when you are above minimum payment and I am really glad we should be able to finish BOS this month as they are making nasty rumblings.

    Happy new year all...

A few quick questions if you don't mind....

I have today received a letter from Halifax informing me that they have passed my debt over to Apex DCA.. that was quick...!

    So questions..

Am I right in thinking that once sold to a DCA interest cannot be charged?

The balance appears to have increased by £35ish is this normal when sold on? I don't know if this balance includes the last SC payment on the the 25th or not...

I will contact SC on monday to inform them of the change of who to pay my pennies to...

I know there have been previous comments about interest being charged once previous minimum payments are met, in this case they are actually getting £48 when the previous minimum was £70 so am hoping that as it has now changed ownership they won't be able to charge interest when it hits that point..?

    Hiya Puzz

There's plenty of info in the links I posted so worth a read. Sorry I don't know easy and quick answer.

Minimum payments are dynamic as your debts go down so do you min payments. It varies from creditor to creditor but generally speaking it is around 2% of your outstanding balance at that time.

    So £2000 debt min repayment 2%= £40.

    Debt £1600 min repayment % =£32.

    Hope that helps

    Hi everyone
Just wanted to say a really big thank you for all your support. I've had an awful 24 hours, but... I rang stepchange this morning and they were lovely as usual. Their advice was keep with the DMP, don't pay Santander anything differently, they are bullies and sc will note their logs about their behaviour.

Sc said until we actually get legal proceedings, carry on as we are - sc don't think a judge will take the car from us as we paying what we can, if we receive any paperwork - forward to sc and also ring them for advice. Basically, if we take Santander out of the DMP, the others won't like it and it could have negative repercussions for us.

We are both really worried, but know that we can't do it alone,
I'm really not strong enough at the moment to deal with all this, so I'm taking sc advice and continuing with our plan with sc advice and support

I do believe Santander will go all the way as they are so horrible but I will keep making the payments and keep you informed.

Thanks again everyone, I couldn't do this without you xx

Just wanted to give you an update on the above post. I can't believe it, after receiving a letter saying they were taking legal proceedings, I wrote to Santander using a letter from this forum, thanks 'find the real', can't thank you enough! Combined the letter with another template from here about freezing charges.....

Today I got a letter from Santander saying they will accept my DMP and will freeze charges!

I'm thrilled! thank you everyone, I will send a copy of the letter to sc on Monday.
