    Hi everyone

I started in a DMP with stepchange in 2012. Ive been making my payments and paid nearly £5000 towards my debts. In reality this equates to £2200 of debt cleared due to the fact that some creditors have not stopped the interest accruals. I posted a thread on the board last night because I felt so low about this it just seems like I'm getting nowhere fast. My DFD is estimated as 2019 but even this seems unrealistic at the moment given the amount I need to clear and the length of time its taking.

Everyone has been so helpful and I was directed here for some more support and advice. I have obtained the letter from a post earlier in this thread to send to creditors and I will send this off this week to the lenders concerned. I am also getting calls all day everyday from 2 lenders in particular who I have (in the past) requested do not contact me via telephone and only in writing.

I just feel like I am struggling at the moment and thanks to the people on this board I have found some motivation to cut back even more and try and increase what I can pay. I have a mid year review booked in with stepchange for friday evening.

I havent read through this thread yet but I will (with a cup of tea in hand) and I will post back later on.

Thankyou Fermi - I didnt know this letter existed!

I will post this off this week also.
  • Hi

    another wee update :-)

After the fright last week with cheque centre threatning to contact my friends I sent the letter advised here, a strongly worded e mail and made a very a heated phone call I received a grovelling email yesterday apologising and assuring me that all contact apart from letter/email direct to me will stop - however - I got a text message today offering me 60% as full and final settlement, I would luv to take that up but dont have it spare so onwards with the dmp.

I heard from RBS saying that both my accounts are closed and there is a default on both - been passed to callcredit? Who i assume is an in house dept collection agency. No phone calls from them which im surprised about!!

Everyone else seems to be going along with the dmp - well I havent heard any different!! I knew the first few months would be rough and I wasnt wrong but now everyone has stepchanges ref number and 1st payment has been made I hope its plain sailing from here!!!

I checked my stepchange statement online last night and according to that it will be xmas 2028 before im debt free!! Hopefully this will change after new year when im finished paying rent & council tax arrears so will have more spare to throw at it :-)

Again thanks everyone for your support :-) xx

Hi all, had a bit of a hectic week, still waiting for hsbc written offer of ppi refund they say it was posted on the 16th list in the post and then sent again on the 23rd but still no post! Wish they would hurry up!
Little car broke down on me yesterday morning on the school run in the p****** down rain! Fortunately hubby's friend came n jumped it off as it had a flat battery! Phew nothing major, my little car is very delicate and doesn't take much to upset it!
I'm also really hoping that hsbc let me keep enough of the ppi refund for a new boiler although ours is working its old and we have britishgas homecare insurance but after a service the gasman said they don't stock parts for it anymore so wouldn't be able to fix it! Great! Would it be very awful of me to use some of the refund for a new boiler? We are in this for the long term so at some point we are going to have to have boiler replaced!
Letter from hsbc informing us they have defaulted the cc debt and passed it to metropolitan no mention of the bank loan or overdraft we had with them tho?
    Hey ho keep smiling x

Hey Mossop glad the car problem wasn't too serious. Mine cost me £368 today. The sump was well and truly knackered, new part alone was £180, then the cost of labour, towing, more oil (obviously!) and of course the dreaded VAT. Just hoping the MOT on the second car tomorrow goes better!

  • Hello all - it's been a very long time since I commented on here. I would like to say that it was the advice and support that I received a few years ago that gave me the confidence to address my debt problems and get them under control. I am back here now to seek advice on full and final settlements (didn't think I would be in this position so quickly!) and to offer any advice or support that I can to anyone at the beginning of their journey.

This happened to us last year. Do we have a new boiler yet? NO!

Apparently British Gas engineers are told to say this to people, then BG try and sell you one of their way overpriced boilers that are literally half the price supplied and fitted by the local CORGI approved person.

Who told me this? Well after our Homecare visit, we had another British Gas engineer who came to fit our smart meters and needed to look at our GCH including the boiler. He said yes our boiler was old but the parts were generic and easily obtained anywhere

Like you, we will need a new boiler at some stage but don't let lying British Gas bully you into it sooner than you need it.

    Hi CornishMaid :hello:

It's great to hear things are going well and I can only echo what you say about this thread giving people the confidence to deal with their issues. It's a real lifesaver :T

All of the good advice on F&F settlements seems to come from National Debtline and I have seen this page recommended many times:

I hope it is useful to you :)

    Good Morning!

Happy to say I feel much more positive today, slept better last night and I think my meltdown that happened 2 days ago was a blessing. I am refocused on solving my debt problem and myself and OH last night worked out where our spare money is going - on rubbish.

I dont have a lot of money spare each month by any means but what I do have could be put towards my debt and we will have to live a bit more frugally than what we are at present. And with the amount that I can afford to include in my dmp, it means that it will mean my debt reduces quicker but wont impact on our life (if that makes sense?)

Plus add to that any "extras" (mystery shopping, quidco, top cashback, ebay etc etc) and I should be able to make extra payments or if im lucky full and final settlements at some points along the way.

Although I still find the situation a tad overwhelming, I do feel more in control and I feel for the first time ever that I have a plan.
