  • I still cannot bring myself to put my debt amount on my signature, I cannot say it out loud. When DH and I discuss it I can only say how much we pay monthly and how long it will take to pay. Im slowly coming to terms with it but its a big figure to accept.

I put ours there for inspiration because I love watching it come down each month, it's a real inspiration and very motivating.

Looking now at the figure £81,306 horrifies me, and it was actually more than that, as there was an additional £1038 undisclosed BNPL debt. It was around £25K more than we thought we owed :o

I am TTFTM and we started off owing £82,344 ....

Go on, it can't be worse than that and even if it is, none of us here judge. It's the fact that it's going down that is important :T

Time to face the music, the amount you have paid off is truly an inspiration to me. When I can actually see the amounts I owe coming down Im sure I will feel better about it. Thank you to everyone on this thread for making me feel supported and not alone in my fight against debt.

I totally get this, I've only just put mine on after 18 months on the plan! There are 2 of us but even so we owe a lot, at least you're doing something about it :)

    Debt-free and Proud!
We started out with £45,367 and that didn't include the HP payments on the car which couldn't go into the DMP. We have finished paying for the car now, so more money going towards our debt:j

Thanks HH. Got my paperwork today and there are a few errors that will need sorting. My OH overestimated his income, he is about to lose more of his allowances than he expected and we'll be a further £200 worse off than we said. Also, his petrol costs have been missed off and a few other (albeit minor) expenses. So on a £79k debt (thought it was £72k - eek, though that's bad enough) we were set to pay £1759 - with the adjustments will probably only be able to pay £1352. In which case it'll be just shy of 5 years (and that's only if the creditors freeze interest).

Been trying to get hold of SC all day and just can't get through, so not going to be able to move this on again for a few days... which doesn't help my mood.

I think I'm going to take your advice and 'invest' my stress in some spring cleaning tomorrow (my last days leave).

I must also look at setting up some spreadsheets now I have all the figures to hand. I am a bit of an excel geek as well :D

On the positive side - I'm quite good with crafts, particularly jewellery making, so looks like that's what I'll be giving to my femaie relations as gifts from now on - the fellas will have to settle for my good wishes :)

That's all sounding much more upbeat already.

One thing I really like abut this place is that we are all free to just say it as it is. Good and bad days.

Persevere with SC to make sure the budget is realistic and includes everything to allow you a basic standard of living. One of the sad things is they usually will not be transparent about 'allowances' and so you can have people in identical situations with different allowances for food. I was on about a third of what I could have for food at one stage, not good news :( but sorted now :)! DMPs are informal an can be flexible to change for lifes ups and downs yes but in reality they often work at their best when there is not change to kick off computer madness with creditors.

I totally get this. I was too ashamed to even list my creditors. But you will get there. X

Hi all, hoping ur all having a better week than me, overspent at the weekend and to top it all off i got a parking ticket today! Ever the feeling u shouldnt have got out of bed?! Oh well readjusting the spreadsheet again tonight!!! Least food and petrol are still budgetted for will start emergency fund again next month!!! There seems such alot of month left in my wages still!!!
Good luck to those starting out, forgive me my whinging, im so glad i started dmp we couldnt have carried on as we were but it does take a bit of getting used to having no credit to fall back on! This is why emergency funds are vital!

Sorry to hear about the ticket. I keep some emergency food in(xx amount of meals in the bottom of the freeze that I rotate and pasta, beans, bread mix, and a tenner in the food cupboard so that when disaster strikes I can still eat.

    Hope that helps

Well done re Sainsburys - Great news.

I was the same re disclosure, part for me and partly my paranoia about being identified!!! What I decided to do was have 'months to serve' in the signature so I could still see the progress.

I can still recall the horror when three years ago I kept recalling something else and the overall debt was 1/3rd more than I had anticipated. My starting debt was £59214 and because of one months token this rose to over 60k in the first month. I'm single so imagine what that would be as a couple!! Am so glad I did it though- I have gone from trying to tape up the postbox to wanting to pull the mail out of the posties hand to update the ever decreasing balance on my spreadsheet.

The point is you don't have to provide disclosure here, it's whatever you want it to be. It can be quite liberating though:)
