I doubt that very much unless an M spec tyre was specifically asked for at the time and not fitted. Would OPs wife be aware of that and specifically asked for one? Are most Merc drivers aware of that?

I'd guess that most wives and most merc drivers wouldn't be aware of the M special tyre thing.

That's why they take their cars to tyre specialist who should be aware and make sure the correct tyres are fitted

There is no need to have matching brand of tyre, as long as size and ratings are the same.

I disagree with this. Ideally tyres should be matched in pairs per axle.Yes, it's not essential but it's recommended for consistent handling characteristics (esp on higher performance cars).

OP, your wife should have asked to replace like for like. Unfortunately, I suspect you are stuck with the Bridgestone. Can you get a photo up of the damage so we can see whether it is likely due to the fitting or kerb damage?

that's to somebody that has been in the motor trade for over 20 years, so imagine how some timid people would be going in to their centres, so wrong.

Why do you use kwik fit then, with all that experience
ANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.
  • Wife phones with puncture.....then drives to Kwik Fit, would this damage the wheel? Then is obliged to have the tyre they have in stock fitted? she could have said no and gone elsewhere.
  • I can't help but wonder if wife damaged the wheel herself but didn't want to admit it to hubby who's "2000 miles on it" car would make him deeply unhappy and make her miserable too. It does happen. She said yes to the tyre knowing the hassle with the previous car so she's clearly not totally car orientated and thats not KFs fault. She said yes, not no.

The alloy damage.. even if it was KF, you do at least know how to refurb them yourself so you're in a better position than most.
