Filed SA return, when will refund be sent?

I filed a tax return (worked as a sole trader) and I'm due a refund as I have paid too much tax.

When are repayments usually issued?

I filed online towards the end of January.
Any tips would be great.

But seriously if it is not selected for a repayment check it should be quite quick ( I help my dad do his each year and it takes about a month for him to be refunded).

If its selected for a check then its upto HMRC to decide when they will repay, but they never say when that will be.

Did you actually "claim" the refund or just file a return? You used to have to tick a box confirming if you wanted overpayments refunding.

Have you checked your on line statement? What does this show?

I got mine something like 6 days after I filed my return, but that was back in June so they wouldn't have been as busy as they will be now.

Hi, I selected the option where any tax that I have overpaid will be paid directly into my bank account. This is just after filing a return, not by actually claiming via a specific Hmrc form.

Do you mean you filled the refund to bank account section in on your return BEFORE submitting it? If so what does your online self assessment statement show?

We're you overpaid on your return or did you have tax due for 11/12 but had paid more via your payments on account?

To be clear, I have filed a tax return for being a sole trader back in 2011-12. As I did it online, by entering what I had earned both self employed and via paye it stated that I had overpaid a sum in tax. This overpayment will be refunded. I want to know how long it usually takes?

I got £15 directly into my bank account in around two weeks, but they do "security checks" if large amounts are involved, which delays things.

Have you checked your bank account? Submitted online 30th January refunded by the 4th February letter 7th February
