Hi all,
I am looking for a decent but cheap laptop with a built in webcam.
I have looked at Dell but prices start around £1000.
There seems to be several models of Acer 5600 series for £380 - £400, but aftersales etc seems to be a bit iffy.
Some have 512 Ram some 1gb. Some Windows Media Centre, some Vista. Its getting very confusing. Are Acers worth looking at?
Does anyone have any info on other brands ie Toshiba, Hp etc who do these machines and any model numbers.
Budget started at £250 until the webcam option got raised. Now it's around £400 ish inc VAT, so would like to stick close to this if possible.
Any help is greatly appreciated
Neil

Why not buy a laptop and add a portable Webcam

some are really cheap and save the money.
Just seems raising your budget £150 for a webcam doesnt seem value for money when you can pick them up for a couple of quid0 -
I see your point. What I failed to mention earlier, is that the laptop is to be used by my mum for webcams of her grand-daughter. Due to illness they cannot travel to see her so I thought a laptop & webcam would solve the issue.
The problem is she has never touched a computer in her life, so I want the minimum of fuss, wires etc etc.
The more she has to do, the more something will go wrong and I'm too far to sort it out.
So I thought that a built in webcam / speakers would be better for her.
I may still have to go down the clip on webcam route but would prefer not.
Does anyone have any more info on other brands or are Acer worth dealing with?
I did speak to an online retailer who said Acer C/Services were very good, which goes against what I've read elsewhere.
Any further help would be appreciated
