feeding my new little dog

Hello have had excellent help re nice names for a new Cavalier and having considered them all think that I am going to stick to Daisy which was my original choice

Am now going to try and sort out something more sensible which is food
I mentioned it briefly in my other post and had a couple of replies one of which am quoting here as the links are so good. I have followed on with my question(s)

"Food wise if they already on raw then i'd try and keep that in her diet. It is thought of as the best by many. I don't feed raw myself because my dog just doesn't know what to do with a raw chicken wing. I know Natures Instinct is very good for raw food. Here is a brilliant link about everything you need to know about raw.

If you just can't see yourself feeding raw then there is plently of high quality dry and wet foods. I am feeding mine on Wainwrights wet food from pets at home which is really good and not that expensive. I am trying Eden dry food which is like 80% meat and no cereals or fillers.
I found this wet food thread amazing and also the dry is great to."

This is just an amazing post, thank you so much. I have read all the posts under the links it took an hour! I dont really understand what the breeder is doing, it doesnt sound exaxtly like RAW as she has lumps of frozen meat and tripe that come from Pets at Home and then thats mixed with biscuit (looks like dry cat/dog food). Its done by weight. No bone mentiioned. She said I could get mince versions. I mentioned dry food and she said its all rubbish would prob have said same if I had said wet commercial food.
I thought of feeding dry as so much easier but I dont know how I would change over and still get the proportions right as I would have to mix at first. And I presume she wouldnt much like the taste? Am I getting to end up with starving neurotic puppy (she will be six months when I get her) I could alternatively use wet food I dont know whether thats better - either way I would use something fairly top of range although not something seriously expensive unless the extra benefit is extraordinary.
When we go away we want to take her sometimes and she will go also to my daughters and my sons so I think a RAW type diet is probably out no matter what. And what happens if dog goes to kennels?
Am seriously in need of some help I think. And one more q about food - she is currently on two meals a day do they/can they drop to one when a bit older?

Yes they can drop to one when they are older. Small dogs can be better on 2 meals a day in terms of not sicking up bile, says my vet, but it's not a biggie.

Food - mine has Nature diet which I think is very good. I agree with you about just wanting something that's easy. Can't get any easier than that. My 7.5k boy has half a pack of nature diet a day, couple of treat chews, and a dentastick with the occasion biccie.

It's completely your choice wether you think you can stick to raw or not :)

I am squeamish and do it, I have not mastered cutting things up on my own ( have some friends who feed roadkill or buy whole stomachs, legs etc and chop them up) I get his delivered and it comes in portion sized blocks so it's very convenient. He goes to my parents and they are fine with feeding it too ( dad was a butcher so knew he would be).

He does get other more yucky things but not a necessity.

The good thing with it being prepackaged mince is that to anyone else it just looks like mince you would get from supermarket/butchers so it doesn't bother anyone feeding it. The tripe mince stinks to high heavens but if away for a week or two he could do without tripe.

All the best with your dog.
