Sunken door mats.

This is turning out to be a bit complicated. The sunken bit in the kitchen is +3cms deep - the front door one a bit less. I have looked under the coir mat in the hall - some sort of board there and a metal edge around the area. I just think it is ugly and 1970s - I want to bring the house up to date.bleepandbooster wrote: »Make sure you lock the front door and let the concrete set ........ otherwise you may have a "mann's chinese theater" (Hollywood) thinghy going on :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

sounds like you may have to break out the metal frame edging of the matwell if this comes level with the top of the surrounding screed. If it dose not then you may be able to laytex over/smoothe out . If the area is 3cm then you should be able to screed it. just usebrush some unibond/water mix on the base and sides before putting your screed in will help it stick . if you feel the metal edge of the matwell isnt a problem and wont cause a issue or uneven surface then just unibond the area inside and screed level then should be fine .:dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:0

I have three exterior doors, and three of these wells with coir mats. They are great because they keep the mat from moving about and they don't add to the height of the floor.
So much so that, when I had some work done recently and changed the location of the back door, I specified a well of the same size and carried on using the same 30-year-old thick coir mat!0 -
A floor layer should be able to take the frames out and level the floor for an hours work.
Probably about £80-£100 including screed.
If the metal frame is not removed it will expand in summer and show through.Be happy...;)0 -
i dont think it would expand that much .depends on the gauge of metal its made from, and depending on what flooring is been layed as a finish ie carpet/ or tiles etc cant see it showing through . in sure anyone could take this job on to remove the matts/frames ...... its not hard. maybe Florenceem has someone that will help maybe a family member as be cheaper than getting someone in .:dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:0
