Hi there, new to the forum today.
Need to apply for a deed poll name change for a 16-year-old, so they can apply as an adult. The official gov.uk site has the relevant forms but lacks clear advice of process, what, when etc.
Have found an online service that takes care of it for £33 - udeedpoll.org.uk - but is this an officially recognised company does anyone know?
thanks in advance,
K

I live in Scotland therefore laws may be different where you are. My niece who is 16 recently changed her surname at the General Registrars of Scotland. She had her natural fathers surname which she was registered under but wanted to change her surname to her mothers and the person she calls 'dad'. Her new birth certificate now has her new surname on it. It does still state the surname of her biological dad at the bottom. She needed this to get her driving licence and bank accounts in her chosen surname.Never look down on anyone unless you are bending to help them up.....0

I used the DIY route - printed out the wording as explained here - http://www.gorge.org/experiences/deedpoll.shtml Basically it's a statutory declaration and I used it to get new passport and driving licence which got me a new bank car and from then it was easy. So all it cost was the passport renewal cost.0

If you want to use an online agency, treat them like any other service — compare what they are offering, and decide which one offers the best value for money.
A deed poll is a legal matter. There isn't an "official" deed poll office / service (just like there is no official "will service").0 -

We did our sons via the deedpoll.org.uk and not had any problems with it.
Good luck.

This is another free service where you print it out yourself, preferable on good paper. http://freedeedpoll.org.uk/£2021 in 2021 no.17 £1,093.20/£20210
