Backing up Blackberry 8520 to computer

Self-confessed technophobe.....need to back up my Blackberry to my computer as I seem to be running my whole life from my phone! I got as far as the Blackberry site, got to the software range I think I need to download, but how do I know which one......do I have a V7 or earlier? What's a 10OS or isn't it relevant???? Looked at 'About' my phone and couldn't understand a word of what I was reading! @If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful! Thanks

On your PC you need to install the Blackberry Desktop software - I think the latest version is 7.1. Don't confuse this with the version of blackberry os on your handset.

Once the software is on your PC/lap top restart it. Launch the blackberry desktop software, Connect your phone using the usb cable and wait for it to be recognised.

The blackberry desktop software will recognise your phone and from memory even put a little picture of it on the right hand window.
One of the options is backup (I can't remember if it was a button you click or if you have to go to the file menu in the top right and select 'backup'.
There may be choices about what you want to backup but select everything. The software will make a backup of everything on your blackberry to a file on your lap top.

I recent;y did this with my kids blackberry 8520 and 9300.

A quick note that the software worked a treat for me when my daughters keypad stopped working. Connected broken blackberry to lap top, select 'switch handset' and the software 'copied' everything from the original blackberry handset to the replacement one! All I did was swap the sim after it was finished and it just worked. All BBm contacts moved to the new phone, all the blackberry services, app settings - pretty much everything and my daughter was well chuffed cos she thought she would have to put all bbm contacts in again. So this is how I know the software does indeed see and backup everything from your handset.

    hope this helps
