Its not an "informal overdraft", it's an "unauthorised overdraft"

As already asked, you need to stop going overdrawn to stop being charged.

Post a statement of affairs on the debt free wannabe forum (links are in the sticky post in that forum) and people will help you cut your spending.

In the OP's defence, HSBC do call it an "informal overdraft", means the same thing though !

You need to work out why you keep going overdrawn and get a better handle on your finances. Just because they let you borrow money doesn't mean you have to take it.

As above post, try posting an SOA on the debt free board.

Try using internet banking to keep track of balances, better yet, check your balance at the machine before taking money out. If it shows you have nothing in there, don't try and take anything out.
