Dormant Company Acknowledgement!

Hi folks,

I set up a company but has NOT been trading since.

HRMC sent aletter to me May 2012 giving notification such as accounting date 27 February 2013.

I just received a letter titled Dormant company acknowledgement''. It stated thus ; Based on info i have, the company appears dormant.......

How on earth do they know that?

Do i still to notify them that the company is dormant?

Cheers

When you set up a limited company, HMRC usually contact you shortly thereafter to ask what your intentions for the company are so they can set up the relevent things such as corporation tax, PAYE, etc as appropriate.
What did you tell them then?

You still have to file an annual return (where you have to disclose the nature of the business e.g. dormant company) and annual accounts with Companies House

Have you just filed accounts at Companies House/HMRC?

The dormant co acknowledgement letter is usually in a standard form, and I think, usually says that if the company ceases to be dormant you must let HMRC know.

Best thing is to call your local HMRC office (should be on the letter) and ask them.

That could be why they say the company appears dormant then :)
