PIR lights question

Here's the situation, the light in the bathroom has gone, and it's due to overheating. (so says mum...) Mum knows I'm terrible at forgetting to turn the lights off, And I think having a motion detector with every light in every room (except bedroom lights) might help stop this... the problem is, how much will it cost for an electrician to install the system?

A lot more than the savings you would get from having a few light bulbs turned off.
  • You would probably need much more than the basic PIR IMO because basic PIR's are not all that sensitive and would switch the lights off if you didn't move significantly for more than the set time. Think about being in the bath and the lights switching off. lmao

If the bulb really has been overheating, you should be able to see evidence of it on the fitting into which the bulb is screwed/plugged. Have a look for darkening or cracks on the fitting. If the fitting is ok then the bulb may have merely reached the end of its life and Mum is diplomatically trying to remind you to switch off lights when not needed.

If there are signs of overheating on the fitting, then I would recommend, for safety reasons, getting the fitting changed too.

    Edit
You don't say what kind of bulb you are using. If it's not an energy-efficient bulb then you could replace it with one so that it will at least reduce the cost of leaving it on inadvertently.
