Temporary Staffing for Events??

Options
Can anyone help me!! I'm developing an events company with my dad. Into the future we'll need to take on people to work behind bars for these events. Clearly we can't have any permanent staff as such. What would be the best way to go about this? Are there agencies in the Merseyside, Cheshire area that provide such staff and would be paying throught the nose?
I'm really stuck with this, so any help with temporary staffing would be brilliant!
Thanks,
ACE

    Hiya mate,

in relation to your post, my girlfriend and I both work in bars in Birkenhead. My girlfriend has worked in bars for 6 years and has a degree in events management and I have been working in/running bars for 17 years...We both have day jobs but would consider helping out if you require.

Have a think and we can maybe have a chat about it dude.

we are often called in to sell our coffee by event management teams , it takes the pressure of them in regards staff/ insurance etc etc and we pay them to attend .

You're entering a very crowded market. Have you really thought about this? The major events are all tied to deals linked to major brands e.g. Glastonbury & Carlsberg, Reading/Leeds & Carling etc.

I would suggest the best way to do it would be to go and work a few events and see how others do it.

The Workers Beer Company for example, recruit from Trade Union Branches and charitable organisations. Other companies recruit through the job centre etc.

Depends on the events you expect to be tendering for. It will generally be those who offer the biggest profit to the promoter that get the deal and this means keeping the costs down which means paying staff less.

I hear what you're saying, but we are on the technical side of bars as well - we're not aiming as big as festivals.
Thanks for the info on the workers beer company....

Thanks for the info on the workers beer company....

The other companies you'll be competing with also provide technical services - a turnkey solution as it's called in project management parlance. WBC provide staff, stock, infrastructure and all equipment - it's a self contained operation. Most other operators are the same.

One of the few companies I know of that only provides staff is Flair (http://www.eventstaffing.co.uk/home.html).

You've also got to bear in mind that companies like Rent-A-Keg (http://www.rent-a-keg.com/) have made it much easier for promoters/organisers to run their bar operations in house.

I think it's likely that a lot of events are going to go under this year and therefore the amount of business available is going to shrink.

Yup, know about Rent-aKeg. We'll be doing something slightly different, which fingers crossed means there will be business. Thanks for the info on Flair - I'd come across them and wondered if there were other companies as well....
    Thanks
