My parents have one and its great. Works at the touch of a button and touch wood it has also been very reliable. If they fail, you can usually close and open them manually too. Not sure how much they cost but I cant see them being cheap to install or to fix if they go wrong. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

I have got two Hormann sectional doors. Superb bits of kit. The Germans know how to screw things together. Pricey - but they come up on ebay now and again. The Pegster

If you have a perfectly good existing garage door, there is no need to change it. These companies supply [or supply and fit for a bit extra] just the motor.
And it is the strength required for the motor [partly dependent on
the weight of the door] that tends to mostly influence the cost of the motor.
The prices can range anywhere from around £200 up to £500/£600.
PS The up and over doors are the easiest to add a motor too. And it's not only
an advantage from the laziness point of view, but a real bonus when it is
raining heavily or very cold.0 -
My existing door is an up and over but it opens onto the pavement. That means I wouldn't be able to open it automatically from within the garage in case someone was walking by, or someone was parked on the pavement close to the door. A roller door would go up and down without that problem. (I hope)0

They're great but I still hope that it won't crash down on my car when I'm taking it in or out of the garage!0

Best 'toy' we bought, when we did the extension at last house!
Soon realizes it WAS NOT a gimmik, either!!
We had a roller, with insulated slats, as the bedroom was above & also better when working in the garage.
Have a word with Gary @ Garage Doors (Luton) Ltd. They did ours, a small, established family firm, been around for years, so not a rip off company!

Lots of info on the website below. You may be able to use your existing door. The only real difference is whether you choose a chain or a belt drive.
