Looking for policy for new house. Doing quotes online, bit confused about how much excess to put in and how much I need to put in for contents cover, Can anyone explain. Want buildings and contents with accidental damage. Can anyone recommend a good and affordable deal? Where is best to look?

Hi There, Why not take a look at Quidco
http://www.quidco.com/?search=home+insurance
There are quite a few well known insurance deals available, I.E Prudential, Lloyds TSB They both offer considerable amounts off £75 off Pru. and £120!!! with TSB
I have taken out car insurance with the PRU and got £120 off. which made my car insurance next to nothing:p
Take time to read the instructions on how to go about joining Quidco, and you MUST follow the links on the Quidco site. Make sure you clean your cookies before you actually sign up.
Hope this helps. When man sacrifices the Love of POWER for the Power of Love, there will be peace on earth.0 -
A lot of insurers are now offering standard cover of £40k contents & £400k+ buildings.
I was lokoing for insurance this week & the most expensive was over £500 online (even including quidco) & the cheapest online was £189 with more than (including quidco)
However, the quidco is never guaranteed, so I rang a few brokers, and to my suprise they offered me a legal & general rainbow policy for £134! (This was got after a bit of haggling)
So its not always best to buy online through quidco.
How I managed it:
More Than Renewal - £215
More Than online Quote - £189
Swinton Legal & General Quote - £210
Swinton Legal & General Quote After I told them about More than quote £185
Insure.co.uk in the phone quote after I told them swinton price - £144
Swinton Price after I told them insure.co.uk price - £134
So it pays to do your homework! Ring brokers as well as relying on quidco.

The excess is only important if you make alot of claims.
Some people make lots of little claims I cannot see the point of (freezer food for example, claiming about £10 more than the excess)
Others use it as a last resort, and so consequently may as well have a higher excess as it will redcue the premium.0
