Options
Hi, I would like some advice about my tax, i currently work 2 jobs both at £6.19ph My main job at a newsagents I get paid £5660 a year and my other job at a night club i get £1250 a year but i found out that i've been paying about £8 a week Tax on my Nightclub job, is this correct even though i earn under 8k a year the max before tax or is it because it's a 2nd job?

  • You are right that you should not be paying any tax as your combined income is under £8,105 for 2012-13. However NI (national insurance) kicks in at a lower threshold (£7,605 for employees), but even allowing for that, your combined income is below that threshold too. It would appear that you have been put on a wrong tax code for the second job. First, check your payslip to see whether it is tax, NI, or a combination of both being deducted. Then contact HMRC (your employer cannot do anything because they act on the PAYE code sent out by HMRC) to see if your code can be amended.

    Good luck.

Just for clarity OP can you post the tax codes shown on each payslip?

What you need to do is get the tax office to split your code to cover both jobs. Do you ever work extra hours at either?

It's mainly because it's a 2nd job as the normal tax code for that would be BR.

However as Valli has said, in your circumstances it would be better if you ask HMRC to split your tax code between the two jobs.
