unable to tax car...please help!!
Options
can anyone help or advice me regarding a complaint with my local main audi dealer. the prob is i bought a car last nov 06, they taxed the car for me until april 07. they also claim that they have completed the correct paperwork to advise the dvla of new ownership and to expect new log book etc in a few weeks. we had not received anything by the end of december so visited the showroom and were assured everything in hand give it another week, so off we went. 2 weeks later still nothing so again spoke to audi again fobbed off and told not to worry. called dvla they say they had nothing from audi, so back & forward for the next so many months. 3 weeks ago, i called into audi and was assured i would not be left high & dry, well, i have been and am mad as hell. i could of completed the correct paper work myself to prevent this, well thats what i thought, because now the claim the car had private plate before i bought it and etc, etc. i have had no car all week. they have just arrived at my home with a a3 plodder. i am paying for a loan plus insurance for something i can not drive, it may take up to 6 weeks. do i have any legal leg to stand to request compensation. my car being the 3.0 a4 convertible, i wanted a replacement with the same spec as i,m paying for. they say they do have a convertible however it his booked for test drives, so cannot use it. any help with the tax or complaint will be gratefully received, as i am totally exhausted with it so are my kids!! under 5, poor legs!!

Go into the showroom, and ask for the manager, and don't leave the showroom until HE sorts it out.
Also ask them to stand the cost of the loan car,as a good will gesture, until yours is sorted,as it appears that they are at fault.
I'm sure the local press would be keen to hear of the story as well.......

Hi,
Having worked at a dealer for many years I have seen this happen a few times. It is your responsibility to make sure that the V5 arrives, the dealer simply pops it in the post as you would. You say that this may be something to do with a private plate transfer? You really need to speak to the DEALER PRINCIPAL and no one else regarding this matter and ask to see the complete deal file. If they are a main dealer ask to see the admin departments track of the V5, they will have something somewhere to say when it was posted.
V5's get lost all the time and recently DVLA admitted that over 30% get lost or are wrong.
Regarding the loan car I think that you are being a bit greedy, if you have an accident you will get a micra normally so an A3 is pretty blinkin good.
Also why do you NEED a 3.0 litre? No one NEEDS a 3.0 litre anything....'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

hi, thanks for your comments, however, dvla state quite clearly on their website that it his the garages responsibility to forward details to them, which we chased with them not once or twice but many times. yes, we could have completed a new registerd owner form but we trusted our dealer to resolve the situation. as an experienced dealer they could have said hey it may of got lost lets send all again. they assured me they had spoken to the dvla in person and it was all in order. i appreciate your comments and will visit garage today to look at files. as for the replacement car, i have now had a s3 delivered top spec, glad i'm not a customer at your dealership!! and no i do not need a 3.0litre who does? but that is what they sold me as being the best model i just wanted what all girls want a nice car, specifically the convertible. besides, when you work hard and save for two years to purchase your dream car, to have it sitting on your drive in this lovely weather is abit sickening. It is the responsibility of the person sending the V5 off the make sure that THEY receive a letter of confirmation that the details have been changed.
I have just received a fine, telling me its my fault for not chasing up the fact I didnt get a confirmation letter. I sent the V5 recorded delivery what more do they want?
