Dell Memory Upgrade

I've got an E520 but as the upgrade to 2GB was £70 I decided against it from Dell. Just saw this on ebuyer which is a 1GB stick for £20 after the £10 discount if using googlepay.

Could I get a couple of these and maybe remove the ones from inside my machine (I think they've used 2 512MB) and maybe sell those on ebay, they seem to be going for around £20 themselves! (I say sell because I guess the two speeds won't be compatible with one another)

One thing is the speed of the ebuyer ones is 667Mhz whereas mine currently are 533Mhz, how can I tell whether the motherboard will support the faster speed RAM?

Thanks

Go to https://www.crucial.com and it will tell you whats compatiable with your pc.

Also yes you could sell the other ones on ebay.

Yes, it supports the higher speed (PC2-5300): http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=Dimension+E520
  • Thanks both  I'm planning to get 2 1GB from ebuyer in separate transactions. I could even get 4 (got 4 slots apparently) but don't reckon I'll need it...

One more question - is it ok to do this as I'm still in warranty (PC only a few weeks old)?

Yes it's ok to fit your own memory etc. - follow the guide in the manual.

Download, unzip and run CPUZ for specific information on your system; http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

At that price it looks like High Density memory, I hope it is compatible with your system.
