My new computer blew up! - EU consumer rights

I bought a computer for my son for Christmas, specifically for gaming. The computer was bought online, from a company in Germany with excellent reviews. However, having set the computer up, it became clear that the graphics card was faulty. I contacted the company, who sent me a return label and the part was replaced. Once we recieved the part back again, the computer worked perfectly for a whole 6 days, before, whilst my son was playing on it, a large spark occured, smoke came out of the front, and it no longer switches on. There is a game disk inside worth £50 which is stuck.
I contacted the company who have again said they will repair it. However, having had the computer working for only 6 days since it was delivered on 23/12/12, I'd rather have my money back and buy a different one. I'm also concerned that there is a major fire hazzard involved.
Can anyone advise me on my rights in this case? I'm not sure where I stand on faulty products bought online within the EU.

Thanks!

Blakoa

There will be a small hole on the front of the disk drive which you can stick a paperclip in and it will release the drive so the game can be retrieved, sorry cant help with anything else

You would need to check what german law states. In UK law you could argue non-acceptance for a refund but you'll likely find the contract is governed by German law. Check the T&C's to be sure.

What company is it? I've had dealings with medion and on the rare occasion I've had problems, they'd said "repair" to me but actually sent a replacement.

Who fitted the new graphics card ?

You bought it on the basis of good reviews. Why not test them out and see how good they actually are.

#2 to get the disk back.

Short of the PSU (which will have quick blow fuses, which is probably what has died) there is no major fire hazard, the voltage rails are +/- 5v and 12v.

Even if the cpu overheated (100 degrees c plus) then the motherboard will shut it down before it gets near that limit. Failing that the cpu thermal compound would crystallise and short the FSB/North Bridge. The quick blow fuses would then render the whole computer inoperable.
