Buying a second hand car
Options
Hello,
My sister and I are going to look at a second hand car for her to purchase tomorrow night, just a little S reg Peugeot, diesel. It is being sold in a garage and has an MOT until March 2008. Is there anything we should look for when going to view this car. Neither myself or my sister are mechanics and were therefore wondering if anyone had any tips on checking if the car is not about to fall apart or break down!
Many thanks
Fusar

Have a quick look at this.
• Check that the cabin (wheel/gearknob/stalks on column) matches the mileage; is it a bit tatty for a low mileage car?
• Open the bonnet, take off the water filler cap & check the tank
• Do the same with the oil - anything that shouldn't be there (sludge, white/brown deposits) could mean a problem.
• Check tyres for issues (chunks/uneven wear)
• Make sure everything seems 'tight' - no clicks or bumps when steering/moving/idle.
• Move the steering wheel fully left to right while slowly moving - listen for any odd noise.0 -
