Argos rights on faulty product

DH brought me an Argos Value Range Computerised Sewing Machine for our 5th wedding anniversary in May last year (2012) for June 2012.
It has had a fault with the way the feed dogs raise/lower since he got it but as it wasnt a major issue and all the other bits worked we never took it back. Since then I have had various other issues cropping up with the machine. I have tried various methods of resolving these issues and havent been able to get it to work properly so DH is going to take it back.
However the receipt which we believe is for the sewing machine (the right/approximate date he brought it) has gotten wet/greasy and all that is left is the address at the top, the 5 received stamps (he got 5 gifts at the same time) and the time/date etc at the very bottom. He paid cash as it was a present. It is a machine that is exclusive to Argos (even has Argos name & a serial number on the back). Will they offer a repair/refund/replacement on this product? Ideally I require a replacement (use it to make/sell quilts etc) but they dont sell this product anymore.
Thanks in advance for your help.

As the receipt has time and date on it, then Argos can check their systems and confirm it was purchased then. If they don't sell it, they clearly can't replace it, they should offer a repair or refund.0
