My son has just received a letter with the new rates for DLA. It also includes a letter about PIP. His award runs out in august 2013 just before his 18th birthday. I don't know if I'm being particularly stupid but he doesn't seem to fit any of the criteria in the letter about when he would change to PIP. There's a page entitled "How might I be affected?" But it only mentions if your award is due to end or be renewed on or after 7th october 2013. I've also put his details into this website and it seems to say the same thing, but it doesn't ask when your award is due for renewal.

I expect I'm missing something completely obvious but will he be applying for DLA or PIP in august? Thanks for any help and I apologise if I'm asking something that's been asked hundreds of times before.

I might be wrong, but I think it says that if the dates are as you say for your son, then he will have to make a fresh claim for PIP. Whether that is once his DLA runs out, or whether it can be done sooner, I don't know.

My wife has just recieved the same letter, and I am trying to locate the paperwork to confirm when her DLA runs out and so what she need sto do.

I got same letter too. But mine says I won't get transferred over to pip until after October 2015. But that is due to an indefinite award. Also the welfare rights advisor that helps me went on a course and they told her they are doing it by area in relation to claim numbers. Southwest is last to be done. Northwest is being moved over now. I wouldn't worry too much x x

Thanks for the replies. All the information I can find just mentions what happens when you renew after 7th october 2013.

This was discussed in a thread a couple of weeks ago.

The date you need to look out for is not the date the award ends, but the reassessment date, which i approx 20 weeks prior to the end date. This is the date they send out the renewal form, the point at which your benefit can be reassessed under normal circumstances.

Therefore anyone who's reassessment date is prior to 7th October 2013, will beable to continue to claim DLA.

Therefore, anyone who's DLA end date is 23 February 2014 or earlier, will be able to re-claim DLA and will not be expected to claim PIP.

Therefore in the case of the OP, their son will be issued the forms to claim DLA approx 20 weeks before the end date of the existing claim.

He will then transfer to PIP either soon after October 2015 as part of the random selection, or when his next DLA award ends if before October 2015.
