Clydesdale bank

Hi I have been informed by the Clydesdale bank that I wont be able to try and reclaim PPI due to having loans taken out longer than 7 years ago

how true is this ?
as reading through other various forums time limits seem to be 6 years which are disregarded
is there a time limit or not ?

thanks

There is no time limit as such, but a successful complaint relies on someone having some evidence whether on a computer, or paperwork.

Data act guidlelines say that any info should be destroyed when it is no longer necessary. Banks typically keep your info for 6 years. Some keep it longer, some keep it for less time

You need some evidence to make a complaint, at the very least an account number.

What you can do if you phone and ask and they say they have no info is to send a Subject Access Request and a £10 cheque to see what info they have on you. This may return nothing, it may return something.
Only after you have performed this step will you know for sure whether or not they have kept any info.

It only gives you the last 4 digits of the account number, not enough to make a complaint.

I have an issue along the same lines: I have had lots of personal loans with this bank over a number of years. I went into my local branch and said I wanted to complain about mis-sold PPI. They gave me a form. I filled it in and they sent it to the bank's PPI claims dept. The form did not ask which loan I wanted to complain about - it was a very vague form.

The loan I am certain was mis-sold on was taken out by me in 2002 until 2003 for one thousand pounds over a year. I don't have any paperwork on the loan, but I do have the bank statements showing the loan repayments and directly underneath every repayment a standing order for an insurance payment ("SO CBIB INS BRK No 8") to the Clydedale bank, which I am certain is PPI connected to the personal loan - it can't be anything else. However, there is no loan account number - just the evidence of the standing order made for £15.03 underneath every loan repayment.

I did receive a great swathe of paperwork back from the Clydedal's PPI claims dept. They denied my complaint - refused - and the paperwork explained why, basically. However, I called them back to say that the paperwork they sent me was not in relation to the loan I was interested in, and I explained the evidence I have and the dates of the loan... of course they said they did not have that paperwork any longer as it was over 6/7 years ago, but that I should photocopy all the bank statements that show the loan and the insurance payments and send these to them and they will look at it.

Can anyone tell me if I have any chance of being successful with this and has the bank given me the right instruction?
    Thanks!

Yes they have, but no idea whether you'll be successful or not.

You could have [and still could] send a SAR and £10 to see what information they do have, but if it's only the one loan you are complaining about, and you have the documentation, then there isn't much point.

Thanks for that response. I am wondering if anyone else has had a successful claim on an old loan with only the bank statement details? Anyone?
