Bought 2nd hand card, have problems
Options
I've just bought a second hand car (2001 Mondeo) from a dealer with 3 months MOT, and now after getting it home I've found a few issues with it. Many are minor (bulbs blown, fuses etc.) but there are a couple of serious ones.
After putting it through a car wash, the back bumper was pulled off, which I managed to fix. After taking it to a local dealer, they said that the bumper had been refitted incorrectly anyway. Not too bad as I can probably claim against the petrol station on that.
More importantly, 2 of the tyres are not road legal, as they have tears on the rims. This is something I didn't notice when I looked around the car.
After a phone call the dealer said that I bought the car with 3 months MOT, and that's it. If it fails the next one, tough. Basically accused me of trying it on.
It has 3 months warranty. Can I get them to fix/replace the tyres? What, if any legal backup have I got?
Should I have paid more attention?

How long ago did you buy the car?

2 days, and been on driveway since I got it home due to the cancellation of my insurance.0

I'm not sure of the exact law but you're allowed to refuse the car even after you've taken it home. I'm sure somebody will be able to give you more information.0

Anyway, I'd just get them replaced by Blackcircles for £80 or whatever it costs, depending on how cheap the car was in the first place.Happy chappy0 -
I would kick up with the Dealer - you have only had it two days... you have a right to return it.... unless it isn't a very reputable company.
Don't shout or get angry though, explain the situation and take it back, perhaps with someone else who can help you get your point across.
Why should you pay out on top of what you have already paid? Buying a car with 3 months MOT certainly does not guarantee the car is road worthy!!!
It sounds like this car hasn't been checked over properly!!!
We bought a used car from a dealer who gave it to us with a brand new MOT and it was in the Garage getting repairs when we were sending the money over. We paid a very good price for the car too, which is in brilliant condition and suits me fine. I will not have to pay anything until the next MOT!!

I believe it is a criminal offence for a dealer to sell an un-roadworthy car. If the tyres are actually illegal then it’s an offence. If they are just legal then it’s not.
Give trading standards a ring
Obviously this assumes that there is no argument about the tyres condition when you collected the car.0 -

Did you buy it under Ford's own used car scheme - Ford Direct? If so you may have be able to reject the car.Lack of money is the root of all evil.

You have a 14 day cooling off period after signing any contract. You should point this out to the dealer. Tell them that trading standards are very interested in this case and want more details from you.
Tell him,you can do this the easy way- full refund/canx of sales contract or go down the legal route, which wil be costly for him as he is the guilty party.
You coud get an full AA check on it, and take this to the dealer, stating that you have proof that the good were sold unfit for the purpose.
Also, try and take a witness with you to the garage. It will give you more confidence, and may scare dealer into backing off. DONT LET THE CON MEN INTIMIDATE YOU!!

Try and document your claims with any photographs (where necessary) to help your claim.
You also mentioned that another dealer mentioned that the bumper was fitted incorrectly. If that dealership is willing, try and get that statement in writing to backup your claim.Lack of money is the root of all evil.
