You've nothing to lose by escalating to the fos.
  • I wouldn't pay them. They didn't check your details properly when they sold you the first instance of insurance. I wouldn't have admitted anything and would have immediately cancelled my policy with them and gone elsewhere providing correct details.
I say all this but you were more than likely right to fess up as these types of situations can bring bad luck etc.

I have a positive outcome to report back on:

I cancelled my policy for this year with Admiral who would have ended up charging me £2700 for my multi-car policy of 2 cars. The extra 6 points added up to £1200 extra. Got some more quotes, ensuring all the stuff was quoted for at the onset - and got a good multi-car policy for £1700.

Had the cancellation fee with Admiral waived too just by asking. I then complained about the £350 I was being charged for the previous year and stated this was in dispute and that I'd be taking this up with the FOS. They wrote to me confirming the refund for this year and asked me to confirm how I'd intend to pay the £350.

Regardless, they netted the amounts off and refunded my card only £1150. I complained by email and today got a call saying they'd not followed procedure and would be waiving their entire claim on the £350!

I should clarify that the £350 part has not actually been received yet but I believe that is the intention.
